Build a Lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop: Everything You Need to Know
It’s been a few years since we built a Lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop so we snagged a reservation yesterday to show you how it all works. We’ll cover the following in this post:
- Experience overview
- Reservations & price
- What’s included
- The build process / what to expect
- Shipping
Experience Overview

Savi’s is a reservation-only workshop in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios. The workshop is located in Black Spire Outpost and the Cast Members attending you are “Gatherers” who will assist you in in building your lightsaber. Your mission is to protect the secret location of the workshop and the power held within as you build your lightsaber.
Reservations & Price

- Reservations can be made on Disney’s website and the My Disney Experience app.
- One reservation = one lightsaber. You can only book one build at a time.
- The reservations will say “Guests, 1” which means only one person will build and one person can come along but will not be able to participate.
- Payment in full is due at the time of booking.
- $292.86 after tax. No discounts apply.
- Valid admission to Hollywood Studios required.
What’s Included

Beyond the emotional value this experience provides, you’ll walk away with the following:
- Your hand-built hilt attached to a 31″ blade
- One 50″ carrying case
Your blade can be removed from the hilt but the carrying case does not collapse or fold. You’ve likely seen other guests walking around Galaxy’s Edge with the carrying case like the one in the photo above.
The Build Process / What to Expect

After you check-in outside of Savi’s workshop, you’ll receive a card, like the blue one in the image above, that identifies your group. You’ll also have an opportunity to study the build kits to decide which type of hilt you want to build. There are four types:
- Peace and Justice: Salvaged scraps from fallen Jedi temples and crashed starships in the Republic-era designs honor the galaxy’s former guardians.
- Power and Control: Originally forged by dark side warriors, this style features rumored remnants from the Sith homeworld and abandoned temples.
- Elemental Nature: This theme embodies the Force- an energy created by all living things, like Brylark trees, Cartusion whale bones, and Rancor teeth.
- Protection and Defense: Hilt materials bear mysterious motifs and inscriptions that reconnect uses with the ancient wellspring of the Force.
Once you have chosen your hilt design, you will be given a cloisonné pin to wear so that the Gatherers will be able to identify what lightsaber you’re going to build. The pin is yours to keep.
Next you’ll select your kyber crystal, the heart of your lightsaber. The crystal determines the color of your blade and each has meaning:
- Blue: Obi Wan Kenobi had a blue kyber crystal
- Green: favorited by Luke Skywalker and Master Yoda
- Violet: wielded by Mace Windu
- Red: Darth Vader, Darth Maul, and Asajj Ventress famously used red kyber crystals
One kyber crystal is included with your paid experience, but you may purchase additional crystals for $24.99 plus tax as pictured below.

Once your group is called, you’ll enter the workshop where the rest of your experience will take place.

A Gatherer will present you with a tray like the one pictured above that contains the following based on your hilt selection:
- 1 hilt
- 4 sleeves, you’ll pick 2
- 2 emitters, you’ll pick 1
- 2 pommel caps, you’ll pick 1
- 2 sets of activation plates and switches, you’ll pick 1 set

Next, you’ll assemble your hilt and a Gatherer will remove the unused parts. The unused parts are not part of your purchase.

Once your hilt is assembled, a Gatherer will connect your 31″ blade. Your guest is welcome to take pictures and video during any part of this process.
When your entire group has completed their lightsabers, you’ll get an opportunity to test out your new laser sword in dim lighting! Have your phone ready if you’re the one taking pictures and video, because this is THE moment!
Shipping

Once you’ve taken your fill of pictures with your new lightsaber, you may want to think about having it shipped home. Fortunately, Droid Depot is located right next door to Savi’s and they’ll handle it for you.
Domestic shipping for one lightsaber is $74.99. The Cast Member at Droid Depot will handle all of the packaging to ensure your package arrives undamaged.
If you’re planning to fly with your lightsaber, here are a few tips provided by MCO, Orlando International Airport:
- Your 50″ carrying case will fit in most overhead compartments.
- Wait to load your case until the compartment is nearly full and it can rest on top of the other bags. Do not put your carrying case in first.
- Separate your hilt from the blade and put the hilt in a carry-on bag.
- Keep the blade in the 50″ carrying case.
Have you been to Savi’s Workshop before? If not, is it on your list? We’d love to hear your thoughts on the experience if you’ve been in the past!
