Additional Closings Occuring at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
So, in my earlier article today, I mentioned how Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show was closing, as well as a few other things on the Streets of America. At the time, I was unaware of what would be removed, but according to the Orlando Sentinel, it’s actually quite a list of attractions that will no longer be available for Guests to experience beginning April 2.
In addition to the stunt show, the Earful Tower, a staple and icon for the park, will be removed. (Though no official dates has been announced for the removal of the park’s landmark.)
Other attractions that are closing on April 2 will be the Honey I Shrunk The Kids Movie Set Adventure (which needed to go, a minimum of 10 years ago) and the Monsters Inc. meet and greet. Also slated to close will be the Studios Catering Co., a counter service restaurant found in the back of the park.
Again, as I mentioned before, I am sure that more news will be coming out here soon about other closures and removals as we move toward expansion of the park, so I’ll make sure to keep you posted!

I´m assuming Writers Stop is going as well? It seems like everything around it is closing… If so, this is the thing I am going to miss most!!! The carrot cake cookie better relocate!
Got out my old Unofficial Guide, 2008 Edition, to see what was open then compared to now. Here was the touring plan (with a couple of additions we squeezed in) in what was still listed as Disney-MGM Studios:

Voyage of the Little Mermaid (rumored closing soon)
Toy Story Midway Mania (rumored long refurbishment soon)

The big problem I see is no real replacements are completed for all the closures.
Is writer’s stop actually closing? Haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere, just “a souvenir stand” which is said to be youse guise moichendise
My family personally loved the Honey I Shrunk The Kids Movie Set Adventure. My kids are 3 & 6 and it was one of the few places in the park for “free play.” For families with young kids it was a great place for the kids to burn off some steam and the parents to sit down. This is now why we love Dumbo so much too;-)
And the Writers Stop store – not a showstopper but worth a mention.

Agreed, my heart sank a little when I read that too. I loved Writers Stop, for some reason it was often the place I could get CDs and books that I could never find anywhere else in the parks. It just seemed perfectly located but nicely hidden away that it was never really busy. Ah well, it all adds to the nostalgia 🙂
Since we booked our WDW trip for this year I can’t help but feel a little sad at all the things that have been announced as going before we get there. Are they reflecting this increasingly diminishing park (albeit temporarily) in the admission price. I suspect not.
Disney does not care. Look how much is shut down at Disneyland now. And during the big 60th Anniversary celebration.
Disney won’t discount b/c they do not need to. Still enough people to pay, and only the front line CMs bear the brunt of the anger and disappointment from guests.
