Allergy-Friendly Changes at Walt Disney World

Disney has made two big changes to how they handle allergy classification and allergy-friendly menus.

New FDA guidance and Disney classification from Disney’s website.

The U. S. Food and Drug Administration has recently changed some tree nut allergy classifications. The following ingredients are no longer classified as major tree nut allergens:

  • Coconut
  • Kola (cola nut)
  • Beechnut
  • Butternut
  • Chestnut
  • Chinquapin
  • Ginkgo nut
  • Hickory nut
  • Palm nut
  • Pili nut
  • Sheanut (shea)

As a result of the FDA change, Disney-owned and operated restaurants have updated their classifications. This means that foods containing the ingredients above may be included in dishes listed as “allergy-friendly” on Disney’s menus.

Allergy information is listed on Disney World menus on the My Disney Experience app, but so is the warning above, “Guests must speak to a Cast Member about this allergy-friendly request.”

One location that is making allergy-friendly ordering easier is Sunshine Seasons in EPCOT.

Sunshine Seasons in the Land Pavilion has added a dedicated window for guests with special dietary requests, including allergy-friendly concerns.
