Changes for Disney’s Hollywood Studios Begin in January
We all knew that changes would start at the beginning of the year at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and it appears that Disney isn’t going to be resting on their laurels. In order to prepare for the expansion, two character meet and greets will be ending in the park, plus a restaurant will see a lengthy refurbishment too.
First, beginning January 4, Guests will no longer be able to meet with Phineas and Ferb or Lightning McQueen and Mater. These two meet and greets were found in the backlot area.
Additionally, due to construction work, the merchandise cart and the Joffrey’s kiosk located near Premiere Theater will be closed after January 4.
That’s not the only change taking place in the park. Beginning January 11, Pizza Planet will be closing for a very lengthy refurbishment lasting through late 2016. There is no word on what this refurbishment will entail, but its length makes it seem like the work will be major.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios will soon begin the largest expansion in the history of the park, which is slated to include the highly anticipated Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land, both of which were announced at the D23 Expo the past August.

I was upset when instead of Cars land they decided to do Toy Story land. My under 3 year old grandson was a big Lightning McQueen fan. He has since starting talking about “Stoy Tory” so maybe it will be okay. I just booked a 5 full day, 1 half day trip for March 2016. We usually do AK as our half day park on the day of departure. This year I am so confused! I go every spring, so not sure why I am so puzzles. I think it is all the construction and the fact that new things (Epcot Frozen, River of Lights, Sunset Safaris in AK) will be ready in “early spring 2016.” Youu would think early spring would be March right? Wrong. These are set to open May 1st. So, now my 5 1/2 day trip is seemin’ a bit long. Thinking of doing MK 2 days, Epcot 2 (normally just do 1) and that would leave either AK or HS for the last full day or 1/2 day park. Decisions decisions!! In conclusion, I am almost making HS my half day.
That’s a shame we are big fans of cars and missed Lightening and Mater in 2013 and I was going to make sure that we found them this year. Guess we won’t be doing that. I sure hope that Toy Story Land in Florida is better than the poor offering that they have in Disneyland Paris.
Heard through the grapevine that hollywood studios will be changing its name
So Phineas & Ferb and Cars characters are gone – gone? Or will they maybe move? What about the possibility of coming back for meet & greets?
The Cars crew might come back in a few years, whenever Cars 3 comes out. Unfortunately, P&F are probably gone for good, since the show ended last summer.
This makes me SO sad! We love LMcQ and Mater! Such a good M&G. And sad about the Joffrey cart as well. A go to place to grab coffee and some breakfast items quickly.
