Cinderella’s Golden Carrousel Name Change: “Prince Charming’s Regal Carrousel”
Cinderella’s Golden Carrousel will change its name to Prince Charming’s Regal Carrousel on June 1. We’ve updated the Carrousel’s review, touring plans and cheat sheets to reflect this name change. No word from Disney on whether the theme or structure of the carousel will be affected. We think the name change is in response to all of the new princess- and fairy-themed attractions going in to Fantasyland; there’s not a whole lot in that land specifically targeted to boys.
Today’s changes to the website also include minor updates to all park cheat sheets to reflect our new crowd calendar scale. The new calendar is a hit with our readers – give it a look if you’ve not yet done so.
I wish i might write the best way you do sometimes. I am positively going to take pointers on the way you write and apply it to my own. Thanks for all your arduous work!
Hello, The nice article sites just found your site on with bing helped me a lot! I really like the info, thank you.
Hi, like the Shrek movies, very good animation!
just placed this page on facebook account. it’s an interesting article for anyone.
I love Shrek movies, great animation movie.
Love Shrek, funny movies!
The tagine recipe sounds (reads) fabulous, must try sometime. A month late, but congratulations to your parents! How wonderful for them, and for you!
I don’t believe this is an attempt by Disney to attract more boys to the carrousel. Disney is not naive enough to think that a name change alone will attract more boys to a ride. This change is about the story line that Disney has always created when building a new attraction or repurposing or “plussing” or “retheming” an attraction or area of the parks. I’m pretty sure Disney knows what they’re doing when it comes to story line and theming. I know when this whole thing is done it will all flow seamlessly. Can’t wait to see the finished product!
I’m sad about the change. I’ve looked forward to riding Cinderella’s Carrousel for over 20 years each time we visited WDW. And Yes I”ve always known the name. My son had ridden it many times as well as Dumbo. Now that my kids are older Fantasy Land doesn’t have much appeal for them. They cruise through it for me and we always ride Cinderella’s Carrousel.

You think? I bet the average guest couldn’t tell you the proper name of the attraction if you offered them a lifetime supply of mickeybars and handed them a park map. What’s more, I don’t think the name change would encourage your average boy to ride it unless you also handed him a lance when he got on and told him to have at it.
I’m guessing there is some overall WDI story for the addition that requires this change for some odd obscure reason. When the 3rd edition of the Field Guide comes out, it will all make sense. Maybe.
Brian, you’re the second person this week who’s suggested jousting as the theme for this attraction. All they’d have to do is turn half the horses around to face the other way.
Disney in their own announcement suggested it right? They said it’s a “tamer” recreation of a jousting simulator. They’re like one step away.
Indeed. The WDI backstory for the attraction was posted on the Parks Blog. It wasn’t clear if this was a *new* backstory, or just a name that better reflects the existing one.

(And, if I got a lance that I could poke at my son with, I’d ride power-ride it all day long.)
This is stupid. Most boys do not want to ride on a Merry-go-Round no matter the name. If they think they need more attractions for young boys maybe they should have thought of that when they were designing the expansion. Renaming a classic ride is not going to cut it.
If it’s now Prince Charming’s Carrousel is the horse with the gold ribbon on its tail still Cinderella’s?
I think Prince Charming got it in the divorce when he left to do the Shrek sequel.
Or at least that is what TMZ said…
Almost spit my coffee out on the computer reading this Adam! Too funny!
