Ahoy, mateys! I’m Heather, and I’ll be bringing you the up and coming on all things Disney Cruise Line. Welcome back again this week. Let’s see what’s new in the DCL world!
Ports of Call
Disney Cruise Line: In The News
Two floatplanes carrying Princess cruises guests collided midair on Monday, unfortunately killing at least 4. Since Taquan Air is the same company used for DCL excursions, guests who may have booked a floatplane excursion on an upcoming Alaskan cruise this summer are being encouraged to cancel and choose a different activity. Since the incident is under investigation, it is unknown how many future excursions may be affected. DCL is currently not reaching out to guests directly, and this information is only being provided to guests who call in to inquire. Guests will otherwise be notified once onboard.
Last week, guests on the Disney Fantasy were treated to a test of free texting – sort of. Reports are that guests with Apple iOS devices were told at check in that they could use the free DCL-GUEST WiFi to send and receive iMessages while onboard. Messages were confined to just text, so no sharing of those humblebrag photos and videos until back home (or with a for-purchase WiFi package).
Speaking of smartphones, late breaking news on the Disney Navigator App front — the Disney Navigator App version 3.0 has been released. In the past, the Navigator app only was a fancy countdown clock until you got on board the ship, but now there’s a lot more you can do. Read all the details here.
Here’s this week’s special offers. Most every week of the year, Disney Cruise Line releases special offers for Florida Residents and U.S. Military Personnel. There are also frequently IGT/OGT/VGT rates available for all guests to book. These offers are extremely limited in availability, and all come with certain restrictions, but the prices are amazing! You can book these online, on the phone, or with your travel agent. These are the current offers available this week:
The following films are being shown aboard the Disney Cruise Line ships this month:
- Avengers: Infinity War
- Incredibles 2
- Ant-Man and The Wasp
- Ralph Breaks the Internet
- Mary Poppins Returns
- Captain Marvel
- Disneynature: Penguins
- Avengers: Endgame
- Aladdin *PremEAR May 24
For future reference, films debut on Disney Cruise Line the same day of their initial release in the United States. Films do vary by ship. Show times are available in your Personal Navigator or the official Disney Cruise Line app.
Captain’s Log: Important Tips and Information
Rejoice, for DCL is joining the 21st century and taking ordering of stateroom gifts online! Yes, this means if you’ve been holding on to your fax machine (kids, do you even know what that is?) just to order a celebration cake or stateroom decorations, you can take it outside Office Space style, because you won’t be needing it anymore!
Stateroom gifts are a great way to add a little extra fun to your cruise. There are various floral arrangements and decoration packages in generic celebration themes, or also in specific themes like holidays or Marvel, for example.
Just in case the unending food and beverage options may not be quite enough, you can also order beverage options, ranging from bottled water to wine/beer, or food options like fruit platters for your stateroom to custom cakes that will be delivered and served in the dining room on a night of your choice.
One of the most popular pre-order items is the Rainforest Room day pass. This is the one thing currently not available through the online ordering system–you will need to book that when you get on board.
Don’t forget that the options available to order will vary by port. Now it may seem super convenient to pop online to order a gift to surprise a friend or family member on an upcoming cruise, but keep in mind you will need a reservation number and the last name of the guest to be able to place that order.
