Ahoy, mateys! I’m Heather, and I’ll be bringing you the up and coming on all things Disney Cruise Line. Welcome back again this week. Let’s see what’s new in the DCL world.

Ports of Call

Disney Cruise Line: In The News

On New Year’s Day, the Magic, Wonder, and Dream started off the new year with a rendez-vous around Castaway Cay. The Magic and the Wonder even engaged in a friendly and always entertaining horn battle! Two years ago, there was a similar gathering with the Magic, Dream, and Fantasy. How great would a meeting of all four ships be to start a new year? I’ll keep wishing!

It’s a new year, and a new time to introduce the weekly specials!  Most every week of the year, Disney Cruise Line releases special offers for Florida Residents and U.S. Military Personnel.  There are also frequently IGT/OGT/VGT rates available for all guests to book.  These offers are extremely limited in availability, and all come with certain restrictions, but the prices are amazing! You can book these online, on the phone, or with your travel agent. These are the current offers available this week:

Upcoming Entertainment

The following films are being shown aboard the Disney Cruise Line ships this month:

  • Beauty and the Beast
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
  • Cars 3
  • Doctor Strange
  • Star Wars: The Force Awakens
  • Thor: Ragnarok
  • Coco
  • Moana
  • Star Wars: The Last Jedi

For future reference, films debut on the Disney Cruise Line the same day of their initial release in the United States. Films do vary by ship. Show times are available in your Personal Navigator or the official Disney Cruise Line app.

Captain’s Log: Important Tips and Information

For those who live in cold climates, there’s nothing like getting away from the winter cold on a warm weather vacation. The Bahamian and Caribbean sailings with a stop at Castaway Cay are perfect escapes! While the temperatures are generally quite lovely in the winter, we all have varying levels of cold tolerance, especially when it comes to swimming. In January, the average water temperature at Castaway Cay is 73F. If that’s a bit too cool for you, fear not! Let’s look at just some of the fun you can have outside of the water:

  • Castaway Cay 5K: Runners, joggers, and even walkers can start the day with this free 5K, which you can sign up for onboard.
  • Bicycle Rentals: For a nominal hourly fee, you can explore the island and take a leisurely ride out to the observation tower for a fantastic view. Bikes are available for adults and kids, and some child bikes with training wheels and adult bikes with attached child seats are available as well.
  • In Da Shade: Take a break from the sun and enjoy a friendly game of foosball, ping pong, basketball, or billiards!
  • Sports Beach: Beach volleyball, anyone?
  • Eat and drink: All the BBQ you can enjoy at Cookie’s and Cookie’s Too are included in your cruise fare. For an additional fee, guests 21 and up can enjoy an adult beverage at one of the many bars on the island. There’s also sno-cones and smoothies available for all ages for an additional fee.
  • Nothing: Did I say do nothing? You bet I did. Grab one of the many lounge chairs, or one of the coveted hammocks, kick back, and simply relax!

Are you deciding whether to book a Disney Cruise but are having a tough time picking which ship fits all of your desires? Well, our own Laurel Stewart has put together a chart that makes it easy to compare all of the options in one place. Also available as a valuable planning and companion guide from authors Len Testa, Erin Foster, and Laurel Stewart is The Unofficial Guide to the Disney Cruise Line. The companion guide contains a complete overview of each Disney ship as well as Castaway Cay and includes valuable tips on how to save time and money during your cruise!
