Ahoy, mateys! I’m Heather, and I’ll be bringing you the up and coming on all things Disney Cruise Line. Welcome back again this week. Let’s see what’s new in the DCL world.

Ports of Call

Disney Cruise Line: In The News

The Alaskan cruise season is in full swing! Disney Parks Blog has some ideas on how to keep warm during one of the coolest itineraries around (see what I did there?). I bet you wouldn’t expect swimming to be part of that list, did you? Yes, the pools are heated, so don’t forget to pack a swimsuit!

Ever thought about a career on board? Disney Cruise Line is hiring! There are both shipboard and shoreside positions available. What would your dream DCL job be?

Here’s this week’s special offers. Most every week of the year, Disney Cruise Line releases special offers for Florida Residents and U.S. Military Personnel.  There are also frequently IGT/OGT/VGT rates available for all guests to book.  These offers are extremely limited in availability, and all come with certain restrictions, but the prices are amazing! You can book these online, on the phone, or with your travel agent. These are the current offers available this week:

Upcoming Entertainment

The following films are being shown aboard the Disney Cruise Line ships this month:

  • Born In China
  • Beauty and the Beast
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
  • Cars 3
  • Doctor Strange
  • Thor: Ragnarok
  • Coco
  • Star Wars: The Last Jedi
  • Black Panther
  • A Wrinkle In Time
  • Avengers: Infinity War
  • Solo: A Star Wars Story

For future reference, films debut on Disney Cruise Line the same day of their initial release in the United States. Films do vary by ship. Show times are available in your Personal Navigator or the official Disney Cruise Line app.

Captain’s Log: Important Tips and Information

Seems pretty safe to say that most (all?) of us here will agree that nobody does fireworks like Disney. While the fireworks displays at the theme parks are full of varying special effects that bring the wow factor, Disney Cruise Line may have one of the biggest fireworks wow factors – fireworks at sea! Most sailings feature a Pirate Night, complete with themed menus, parties, and more. Arguably, the highlight of this night is the Buccaneer Blast.  Now this isn’t the 15-20 minute display you may be used to at the parks; it’s shorter and sweet but guaranteed to make you smile. You’ll definitely want to plan accordingly for the show so you don’t miss a moment. Step 1 will be to check the Personal Navigator for times – both the show and the fireworks will be listed. The pool deck will get crowded, so try not to wait till the last minute to get a spot. Fireworks are (typically) shot off the starboard side of the ship (that’s the right side). On the Magic and Wonder, you can get a great view from the port side, between the two funnels. You’ll want to consider your position carefully on the Dream and Fantasy, as there’s a chance that the AquaDuck may block your view, so consider staying on the starboard side on the Dream class ships. Oh, and if you are sailing on New Year’s Eve, you can expect a special fireworks display to ring in the New Year! Fireworks are always weather permitting, so cross your fingers and enjoy!

Are you deciding whether to book a Disney Cruise but are having a tough time picking which ship fits all of your desires? Well, our own Laurel Stewart has put together a chart that makes it easy to compare all of the options in one place. Also available as a valuable planning and companion guide from authors Len Testa, Erin Foster, and Laurel Stewart is The Unofficial Guide to the Disney Cruise Line. The companion guide contains a complete overview of each Disney ship as well as Castaway Cay and includes valuable tips on how to save time and money during your cruise!

Special thanks Scott Sanders of The DCL Blog for assistance on this article!
