Disney Cruise Line in a Jiffy: What is 1923?

A Disney Cruise on one of the three Wish-class ships – the Disney Wish, the Treasure, and the Destiny – will give you a chance to dine in the 1923 restaurant on board. You’ll head for 1923 as part of your rotational dining lineup on at least one night of your cruise. Here’s what to expect.

The 1923 restaurant is named for the year that Walt Disney Studios was founded, and leans on an elegant vintage vibe. There are actually two dining rooms in the venue, one for Walt and one for Roy Disney. The style of the dining rooms echoes the Art Deco elegance of “Hollywood’s golden age”, but you won’t forget that the focus is on Disney. The walls are decorated with display cases filled with sketches and props from Disney’s classic films.

As part of your dining rotation, your meal and basic beverages are included in your cruise fare, and you don’t need a reservation to eat there on your assigned evening. There’s no dress code, although you might find yourself assigned to 1923 on one of the optional “dress-up” formal or semi-formal nights. Even if it’s not official, some guests like to dress up a bit to match the upscale feel of this dining room.

If your cruise is longer than 3 nights, you may have 1923 in your rotation more than once, but you’ll see a different menu each time. 1923’s menus focus on fresh California cuisine. You can look forward to, for example, dishes like Duck Confit Pastilla, Porcini Spiced Ahi Tuna, Parsley and Rosemary-crusted Rack of Lamb, and Churros on the dessert menu.

As in all the dining rooms, you’ll find entrees marked as lighter fare and dishes for vegetarians. Your serving team can accommodate special diets and allergies, although you should contact Disney Cruise Line in advance of your sailing if your allergies are severe or life-threatening.

On the Wish-class ships, 1923 is the only one of the three rotational dining rooms that doesn’t have a show during your meal. Depending on your preferences, that might make 1923 the restaurant you plan to skip, or one that you’ll make sure to experience.
