Passholders can buy refillable tumblers, and crowds start to return to normal as the summer of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge marches on! Read on to find out about this and more in this week’s Disneyland news.

Special Events and Notes

As you know, we now have an official opening date for Rise of the Resistance at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge: January 17, 2020. This revelation and apparent resignation that it is going to be a while before the land is complete seems to have brought some people back to the parks, and we’re starting to see crowds that are more like what we’re used to seeing this time of year. The situation remains very fluid, but we’re bringing our projections up from the 1s and 2s we’ve been seeing to higher numbers (see below). You can stay abreast of ALL of our Galaxy’s Edge coverage by bookmarking this link.

In preparation for the Haunted Mansion’s 50th Anniversary celebration on August 9, Disney has opened a special exhibit in the Disney Gallery. It includes concept art, models, and artwork from this classic attraction.

An opportunity for soda-loving Passholders has popped up at Disneyland. Disney is now offering collectible refillable tumblers to Passholders for $14.99, and they are available for purchase now through September 5, 2019 (while supplies last). These tumblers can be refilled for 99 cents with soda, regular coffee, hot tea, or hot chocolate at one of several locations throughout the resort. Check out this article from Disney for more details.

As a reminder, the 25th Anniversary of The Lion King continues at Disney California Adventure through September 2. You’ll see storytellers; African song, dance, artwork, and crafts; and more at the Palisades Stage. Check here and your in-park times guide for more details. Also, the original Soarin’ Over California is available to experience through August 31, AND on Thursdays through July 31, Passholders will get an extra hour at the end of the night to experience it.

Looking ahead, the Main Street Electrical Parade is making a return to Disneyland! Starting August 2, the popular parade will be running in the evenings through September 30. Also, tickets are now available for Disney’s new Halloween Party at California Adventure this fall — the Oogie Boogie Bash — including a dance party, treat trails, and special presentation of World of Color called “Villainous.” More details are available here.

After several weeks of historically low crowds, we’re starting to see people return to Disneyland. We had been seeing level 1 and 2 crowds, but this week has already brought 7 and 8 level crowds resort-wide. We’re projecting that trend to continue this week, particularly now that people know that they’ll be waiting until 2020 for Rise of the Resistance anyway. With that said, the only thing predictable about Disneyland crowds this year has been their unpredictability, so there certainly remain the possibility for the crowds to be unexpectedly high or low until we start to see more consistency.

Adjustments to the crowd calendar will be ongoing throughout the summer. For the most up-to-date numbers, check out our Crowd Calendar.

Temperatures will see highs in the mid-80s and lows in the 60s. There’s only a few slight chances of rain, and nothing that should really make a difference from a planning standpoint.

As always, it’s wise to double check the weather as the day of your visit approaches. Check out the most up-to-date forecast here.
