Pixar Pier gets a new attraction, and the summer of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge continues! Read on to find out about this and more in this week’s Disneyland news.

Special Events and Notes

The Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind is now open at Disney California Adventure. You may remember this attraction as Flik’s Flyer’s in a bug’s land. Well, the ride has been repurposed, reimagined, and reborn, and it’s now the latest attraction to be added to Pixar Pier. If you or your little ones enjoyed Flik’s, there’s more of that to love here!

We continue to be surprised by the low crowds at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which is now open to the masses. Whether it’s passholder blockouts, people waiting until Rise of the Resistance opens to make their trips to Disneyland, or even people trying to avoid what they assume will be crazy big crowds, the crowds continue to be very light at Disneyland — we’ve seen nothing but level 1 and 2 crowds since Star Wars opened. Make sure you check out our recap of the general opening for more info. Also, check out Rikki’s recent post on the entry process (though the boarding group system hasn’t been necessary of late). You can stay abreast of ALL of our Galaxy’s Edge coverage by bookmarking this link.

The 25th Anniversary of The Lion King continues at Disney California Adventure through September 2. You’ll see storytellers; African song, dance, artwork, and crafts; and more at the Palisades Stage. Check here and your in-park times guide for more details.

The return of the original Soarin’ Over California has been extended through August 31, AND on Thursdays through July 31, Passholders will get an extra hour at the end of the night to experience it.

Looking ahead, the Main Street Electrical Parade is making a return to Disneyland! Starting August 2, the popular parade will be running in the evenings through September 30. Also, tickets are now available for Disney’s new Halloween Party at California Adventure this fall — the Oogie Boogie Bash — including a dance party, treat trails, and special presentation of World of Color called “Villainous.” More details are available here.

Under normal circumstances, we’d be seeing level 7 and 8 crowds this time of year at Disneyland Resort. Of course, there’s nothing normal about the crowds we’re seeing this year, and we are actively working to incorporate this new information into our predictions. Since Galaxy’s Edge opened to the general public, we have consistently seen level 1 and 2 crowds, which is well below normal for summer. We are currently expecting that trend to continue throughout the summer. Put another way, it’s a fantastic time to visit Disneyland!

Adjustments to the crowd calendar will be ongoing throughout the summer. For the most up-to-date numbers, check out our Crowd Calendar.

Temperatures will be slightly cooler this week, with highs in the 70s and 80s and lows in the 60s. There is a slight chance of rain each day the early part of the week, but nothing that is really going to make a difference from a touring standpoint.

As always, it’s wise to double check the weather as the day of your visit approaches. Check out the most up-to-date forecast here.
