This week Disneyland hosts Mardi Gras, Valentine’s Day, and the continuation of the Lunar New Year Celebration. Read on to find out more in this week’s Disneyland preview!

Special Events and Notes

While nothing official has been announced as yet, Tuesday is Mardi Gras, and Disneyland traditionally ramps up the bayou-themed festivities at New Orleans Square at Disneyland Park. If history holds true, you can expect special music, entertainment, and character greeting opportunities, in addition to limited-edition food and drink like the Mardi Gras Mickey beignets that you can already pick up.

Wanting to celebrate Valentine’s Day at Disneyland? In addition to the love that is always in the air at the parks, be on the lookout for special treats at snack carts and Valentine’s menus for the occasion at Disneyland restaurants, such as Blue Bayou, Napa Rose, Steakhouse 55, Carnation Café, and Storytellers Café.

Disneyland Resort’s Lunar New Year celebration continues this week at Disney’s California Adventure. In addition to special food and drinks, there will be traditional ornamental lanterns and banners adorning the park. There are several special events and opportunities to experience, including:

  • Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession, a parade that will run several times a day in the Paradise Pier area;
  • Hurry Home nighttime water show at Paradise Bay featuring Mulan and Mushu (which is a pre-show to World of Color);
  • Disney characters in special Lunar New Year attire;
  • Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese foods at Paradise Garden Grill; and,
  • The Lucky Wishing Well.

For more information about the Lunar New Year celebration, check out Rikki’s preview, or Disney’s event page for daily event schedules.

Also, Disneyland Resort is currently showing a Sneak Peek of A Wrinkle in Time. The preview will be shown in 3D with special in-theater effects at the Sunset Showcase Theater.

Crowds are start to tick up ever so slightly compared to past weeks, but particularly during the week, they remain manageable.  You’ll see 8s on the weekend, and 6 or under the rest of the week, with Wednesday targeted for the lowest crowds.

Full details, including park-by-park crowd levels, are available on our Crowd Calendar.

Weather in the 70s all week, with it trending closer to 80 towards the end of the week.  Evenings remain chilly with lows dipping even into the upper 40s, so make sure you have something warmer if you’ll be there after dark.  Slight chances of a rain Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, but only slight.

As always, it’s wise to double check the weather as the day of your visit approaches. Check out the most up-to-date forecast here.

Only Fantasmic! and World of Color are running at the resort in the evenings — no nightly fireworks at Disneyland Park at all while Main Street is under construction. Detailed show schedules, including smaller diversions like the Disneyland Band, can be found here.

There are a significant number of attraction closures in effect at the moment.  At Disneyland Park, Splash Mountain, Dumbo, and both the Storybook Land Canal Boats and the Casey Jr. Circus Train are being refurbished this week.  There is also a project underway to replace the tracks for the Main Street Vehicles that significantly impacts Main Street U.S.A. and will continue to do so through the middle of March. Those vehicles are not operating, and the whole area is a bit of a disaster. Check out Guy’s recent post on the topic for more.

Over at California Adventure, much of Paradise Pier is closed for the conversion to Pixar Pier, with the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail also closed.  Check out our refurbishments page for details on exactly what will be down and for how long.

That should do it for this week’s preview. Check back next week and every week to find out what’s coming down the pike. Got questions? Aware of anything else that prospective guests should know about? Let us know in the comments.
