Halloween is here!  Halloween is here!  OK, not really, but it’s September, which means that Halloween festivities have arrived at Disneyland. Read on to learn more in this week’s Disneyland preview!

Special Events and Notes

Halloween season is officially in full swing at the Disneyland Resort now.  Both the Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain return in holiday mode for Haunted Mansion Holiday and Space Mountain: Ghost Galaxy.  New this year, the already brand-new Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout is getting a new Halloween makeover of its own — in the evenings, it will transform into Guardians of the Galaxy — Monsters After Dark. The attraction will remain in its normal mode during the day.

Mickey’s Halloween Party starts up this week, and will be happening on Wednesday and Friday.  Make sure you check out Guy’s preview for all of the details, and to learn how to get the most out of it! Note that this week’s parties are sold out, as are most other parties this season. If you’d like to attend, get your tickets sooner rather than later.

This year also welcomes the debut of some new Halloween-themed overlays at Disney’s California Adventure.  Cars Land and Buena Vista Street have brand new holiday decor, and there will be lots of seasonal treats available on a limited-time basis. Check out Rikki’s preview for more information about what to expect.

Low crowds continue this week at Disneyland.  Crowd levels are 2-3 most of the week, with only Saturday being even average sized.  If you like light crowds, it’s a great time to visit the parks.

Full details, including park-by-park crowd levels, are available on our Crowd Calendar.

With Disneyland located in Southern California, the weather part of this update is often the easiest part; my inclination is just to say, “the weather is going to be nice” and move on.  This week is no exception — pleasant temps, no significant chance of rain forecast, and ample sunshine all week long. Glorious week, seriously.

As always, it’s wise to double check the weather as the day of your visit approaches. Check out the most up-to-date forecast here.

Disneyland Resort has a full slate of shows on the weekend, and a very lean schedule on the other days. Note that special shows will run at Disneyland Park for the Halloween Parties on those evenings; consult the daily schedules for Wednesday and Friday for more details on those shows.  Detailed show schedules, including smaller-scale performances like the daily Flag Retreat Ceremony, can be found here.

Admission and Hours

As indicated above, Disneyland Park will be closing early on Wednesday and Friday for Mickey’s Halloween Party. Both of those parties are sold out, so if you don’t already have tickets, be aware that you’re not going to be able to go to Disneyland Park on either of those evenings.

Southern California Passholders are blocked out on Saturday, while Southern California Select Passholders are blocked out on Saturday and Sunday. All other Annual Passports will be honored all days of the week. For those of you buying tickets as day guests, single-day tickets are at Regular cost ($110 adult/$104 child) on Saturday, Sunday, and Friday, and Value ($97/$91) the remainder of the week.

Regular park hours (excluding Extra Magic Hours/Magic Mornings) are as follows this week:

California Adventure 8-10 9-10 10-8 10-8 9-8 9-8 8-11

As per usual, the parks will open one hour early for eligible guests at Disneyland Park Saturday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and at Disney’s California Adventure Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Resort guests can take advantage of these hours every day of their stay for Extra Magic Hours, while guests eligible for Magic Mornings can use that benefit one day at Disneyland Park only. Full park hours can be found by clicking on each date in the Crowd Calendar.

At California Adventure, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! is undergoing a brief refurbishment and will return on September 23.  Goofy’s Sky School is also currently closed.

At Disneyland Park, River Belle Terrace is closed and Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage will be closing on September 18 and returning September 23. Main Street Cinema remains closed through September 29.

Looking ahead, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters will be closing briefly from September 25-27. Big Thunder Mountain is also planning a refurbishment October 2-20, and it’s a small world will be closed from October 23 through some time in November. Keep those dates in mind if those attractions are an important part of your trip!

As always, you can see the full slate of refurbishments by checking here.

That should do it for this week’s preview. Check back next week and every week to find out what’s coming down the pike! Got questions? Aware of anything else that prospective guests should know about? Let us know in the comments!
