Dos and Don’ts – Items to Bring to Halloween Horror Nights
Your tickets are purchased and hotel booked for Halloween Horror Nights and you are ready to roll. But wait! HHN is a unique beast compared to touring a park normally or visiting other Halloween events. In this article, we will cover items to bring and not to bring to Halloween Horror Nights.
Do Bring
Earplugs
Halloween Horror Nights is a LOUD event. There are revving chainsaws in the lands, pulsing music in shows, and startling sound effects in the haunted houses. All the staff wears earplugs and you should too. We suggest picking up some cheap, reusable earplugs on Amazon or a local hardware store. Pop them in when sounds in the haunted houses, scare zones, and shows become too loud.
Good Walking Shoes
Just as with any theme park visit you will be walking a lot at HHN. But in addition to walking from attraction to attraction, you will find yourself queueing in lines only to walk more! Skip the spooky or gothic footwear and stick to comfortable walking shoes; your feet will thank you later.
Light Jacket or Wind Breaker
September and October weather patterns change drastically between the day and night. Check your weather forecasts and bring a light jacket or windbreaker if necessary. If rain is forecast we also suggest bringing an umbrella to provide more protection. If rain or cold weather is forecast still go. Rainy HHN days are among the event’s least attended.
Patience and a Sense of Humor
We have all been through a lot over the past 18 months, including the team members working the event. There are always first weekend issues to fix, long lines at food stands, and more. Come to HHN this year with some patience as front-line Team Members get their sea legs back. And remember, it’s just a theme park event, so have some fun.
Don’t Bring
Costume & Costume Masks
Universal strictly bans guest costumes and costume masks from the event. With costumed actors in the streets, the last thing the park wants are guests getting confused. Universal will still allow T-shirts and other themed items. The line between costume and “themed outfit” is a blurry one, we suggest avoiding any prosthetics, fake blood, or makeup and stick to a shirt.
Costume masks that cover the full face are strictly prohibited, but facial coverings such as surgical masks and three-ply face coverings for COVID-19 are allowed and encouraged.
Alcohol
Just like any other theme park, alcohol is not allowed into the event. Additionally, alcohol is not allowed past security at the parking garages and all alcohol purchased at CityWalk must be finished before entering the park. Here at TouringPlans, we encourage responsible drinking; any patrons shown to be visibly intoxicated will be turned away.
Offensive and/or Risque Clothing
While HHN might be boundary-pushing with horror and satire it does not want you to do the same. Leave at home any offensive clothing including, but not limited to, offensive language, offensive symbols, or derogatory terms. Same for risque clothing, keep it PG and family-friendly. The last thing you want is to be sent out of the park to change.
Light-Up Objects
Light-up objects are sold at Halloween Horror Nights but we suggest not purchasing them or bringing any with you. Not only is it another thing to carry they also must be turned off and put away while going through the haunted houses.
