You’re going on vacation to Walt Disney World! The only problem? You’re not sure which attractions are right for you and your kiddos and you have questions. Which attractions are too intense for little ones? What rides do I really need a FastPass+ reservation for? What’s the disability access like for certain attractions? We’re answering all those questions and more in our Everything You Need to Know attraction series with today’s focus on Peter Pan’s Flight at Magic Kingdom.

What is Peter Pan’s Flight?

Just one of the attractions you’ll get to ride on “The Ultimate Day for Young Families – a VIP Tour Experience.”

Peter Pan’s Flight is superbly designed and absolutely delightful, combining beloved Disney characters, beautiful effects, and charming music. This indoor ride begins in the Darling family’s house before embarking on a relaxing trip in a “flying pirate ship” over old London and thence to Never Land, where Peter saves Wendy from walking the plank and Captain Hook rehearses for Dancing with the Stars on the snout of the ubiquitous crocodile. Nothing here will jump out at you or frighten young children.

Where is Peter Pan’s Flight?

Peter Pan’s Flight is located in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom across from “it’s a small world.”

What is the History of Peter Pan’s Flight?

Walt Disney World’s Peter Pan’s Flight has been operating since the Magic Kingdoms opened in 1971. It was modeled after Disneyland’s version which has also been operating since the park’s opening day in 1955! However, Disneyland’s original version didn’t include Peter Pan in the ride itself. The premise was guests were acting as Peter Pan flying over London and Neverland; but few guests picked up on this concept. This is why Peter Pan was included in the Walt Disney World version; and it’s also why Peter Pan was added to Disneyland’s version in 1983 during the park’s massive Fantsyland overhaul.

There have been other refurbs to both versions of Peter Pan’s Flight through the years. However, much of the attraction has remained the same. What has also remained is the attraction’s popularity. Despite being such a short ride, kids love it and have for generations.

What Do You Need to Know About the Queue for Peter Pan’s Flight?

Once upon a time, the queue for Peter Pan’s Flight was one of the worst at Walt Disney World. I have memories of waiting an eternity in the hot, crammed switchback queue with nothing to look at but the backs the people in front of me. Thankfully, that is no longer the case!

A few years ago, Peter Pan’s Flight added an indoor interactive queue where guests walk through the Darling home and into the nursery. Tinkerbell can be seen flying throughout the room and interacting with different items. Guests will enjoy interactive shadow elements during their wait as well.

Guests waiting in the Peter Pan’s Flight queue can also play a game exclusive to this attraction on the Play Disney Parks app.

What are the Ride Vehicles Like for Peter Pan’s Flight?

For Peter Pan’s Flight, guests ride in pirate galleons which run on a track along the ceiling. But no need to worry about boarding these high flying vessels. Guests step aboard via a moving walkway level with the slow-moving ships.

Each ride vehicle consists of one row accommodating 2 to 4 guests depending on size. Typically, two adults and a small child can ride comfortably. One adult with three small children often works as well. Cast members may load two adults with two small children into one vehicle, but it may be a tight fit. Larger adults can be seated in their own vehicle; this is rarely necessary. Guests sit on a plastic bench seat with a tall back and single pull-down lap bar for all riders in the vehicle.

What Do You Need to Know About the Ride Experience on Peter Pan’s Flight?

Peter Pan’s Flight is a gentle, enchanting flight through the Darling nursery, over London and Neverland, and then through a few action scenes from the film. There are a few swoops and turns, but the movement is smooth. Those with a fear of heights should know the ride vehicles are attached to the ceiling to simulate flight, but it shouldn’t be an issue for most. This attraction is definitely one of the best for families and is considered by some a childhood rite of passage!

What Do You Need to Know About the Accessibility for Peter Pan’s Flight?

Wheelchair and EVC users must transfer to the standard ride vehicles; guests must be ambulatory as the ride vehicles will not be slowed or stopped. Service animals are not permitted on this attraction.

What Do You Need to Know About the Health and Safety Advisories for Peter Pan’s Flight?

Thanks to this gentle ride experience, there are no health and safety advisories for Peter Pan’s Flight. Those with a fear of heights should note their ride vehicles run on a track attached to the ceiling, and much of the ride itself involves looking down and around at the scenery below them.

What are the Height Restrictions for Peter Pan’s Flight?

I would also add that you will not see all the interactive elements of the queue when using FP+.
