Last Week at Disneyland Resort (1/6/2013 – 1/12/2013)

The first full week of the new year has come and gone at Disneyland, and with it went the record-setting holiday crowds. If you visit the Anaheim resort on weekdays between now and mid-February, you should find some of the mildest lines of the year, but be aware; a bevy of attractions boarded up for refurbishment may make up for the short waits.

Quietest Day: Thursday 1/10 was a 2 out of 10 at the resort, with 2.5 at Disneyland, and 1.1 at DCA.

Busiest Day: Sunday 1/6 was an 8 out of 10 at the resort, with a 7.3 at Disneyland, and 5.5 at DCA.

Special Events

• As part of the 2013 Limited Time Magic promotion, a tribute to the classic Golden Horseshoe Revue opened on 1/10. The show will be performed Thursdays through Mondays until February 4. To celebrate, Disney released this interview with original Golden Horseshoe choreographer Miriam Nelson. While the show is running, you can get special snacks like Monte Cristo bites. • Disneyland Annual Passholders now receive one hour early entry into both parks on Saturdays and Sundays through April 14, 2013 (except 1/19, 1/20, & 2/3). Advanced registration is not necessary, and the benefit may be used more than once.
• Artist showcase events began January 12 at WonderGround Gallery, and continue each weekend in January from 1-4 p.m.
• To celebrate Star Tours' 26th birthday, Disney released free printable Starspeeder papercraft kits.

• As part of the the Limited Time Magic campaign, the New Orleans Bayou Bash returns on January 18, bringing Mardi Gras food and music to Disneyland on weekends through February 12.
• The “holiday village” of merchandise and snack vendors and the ice skating rink in Downtown Disney ceased operating on 1/6 until next holiday season.
• Disneyland Resort is now taking photos of all guests holding multi-day tickets. This results in slow entry procedures; be prepared to arrive extra early (at least 45 minutes pre-opening) to be one of the first people into the park.
• The Blue Sky Cellar near Cars Land is currently receiving new exhibits previewing the new Fantasy Faire in Disneyland Park.

• A new online special currently offers a 3-Day Disneyland Park Hopper for $220, a $30 savings. Tickets must be purchased online by February 27 and used by March 11.
• Branding by long-time sponsor Kodak has finally vanished from Disneyland park maps, following the company's bankruptcy.
• One of the movie screens at Downtown Disney AMC has been upgraded to IMAX.
• On January 25, Elton John will perform a private concert at DCA's Hyperion Theatre for attendees of the NAMM music industry convention.
• A meet-up with runDisney nutritionist Tara Gidus was announced for 1/18 ahead of Disneyland's Tinker Bell Half Marathon; all spots were quickly filled. A variety of race-related merchandise is also now available for sale at the resort.

Openings, Closings, and Refurbishments

• Construction continues on the new Princess Fantasy Faire and Fantasyland Theatre.
• MuppetVision 4D returned to DCA on 1/7 after being replaced with the Prep & Landing: Naughty vs. Nice 3-D short film for the holiday season.
• Big Thunder Mountain is closed 1/7 through 10/30 for a major refurbishment of the track and scenery.
• Big Thunder Ranch is closed 1/7 through 1/17 for holiday decor removal.
• Haunted Mansion is closed 1/7 though 1/17 for holiday decor removal.
• Fantasmic! will not be performed 1/7 through 2/14.
• The Mark Twain Riverboat is closed 1/7 through 3/28 for refurbishment.
• Grizzly River Run is closed 1/7 through 2/28 for refurbishment.
• Silly Symphony Swings are closed 1/7 through 2/17 for refurbishment.
• The Imagineering Blue Sky Cellar is closed 1/7 though 1/18 to install a new exhibit.
