Select Disney Vacation Club Resorts to Open This June

Today, the Walt Disney World Resort shared their initial plans for reopening the theme parks to the Orange County Economic Task Force. With a proposed reopening of July 11 for both Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom and July 15 for Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot, the question that was quickly asked is what about the resorts. Well, we have a bit more information regarding that piece of the puzzle.

According to the Disney Parks Blog, at this time, due to the fact that the parks will see reduced capacity when they officially let Guests return, the Walt Disney World Resort is temporarily pausing new Disney Resort hotel reservations so that there can be a focus on those Guests with existing tickets and reservations. With that being said, beginning June 22, Disney Vacation Club resorts at Walt Disney World will reopen to members and Guests, as well as Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. For those who would like to visit some of the other Disney Vacation Club resorts in either Vero Beach, Florida, and Hilton Head, South Carolina, they will be re-opening to members and Guests starting on June 15.

For those looking to stay at the Walt Disney World Resort Hotels overall, they will officially reopen on July 11.

To keep Guests as safe as possible, plans will be put in place to support required physical distancing. In addition, there will be enhanced cleaning measures, along with a number of other safety and cleanliness protocols that will be implemented as part of this planned phased reopening based upon applicable guidance from health authorities and government agencies. Also, Cast Members as well as guests 3 years of age and older will be required to wear appropriate face coverings not only in the theme parks, but also in common areas of resort hotels.

Additional information on enhanced health and safety measures and operational changes for reopening locations will be shared soon. Do keep in mind that these policies are subject to change as conditions are monitored and updated guidance has been received from health and government authorities.

  • Hi, I just wanted to let you know since you were in the same situation. It took me a week to get through to member services but they said that reservations between June 22nd and July 11th when the parks open are considered “impacted”. Expiring points get the same consideration as those from reservations during the closure, so 2019 points will be extended to next year. Made my Friday!

  • What if your reservation starts shortly before opening day 20 jun but goes thru to 27 jun

  • because your dvc contract explicitly states, the timeshare is not conditioned on the continues existence of the theme parks and the disney transportation…. thus DVC has a duty to reopen as soon as its safe to do so as the condominium we know as DVC is a seperate entity that simply has the luxury of being near a major theme park, but such perk is not gaurunteed to be there.

  • Is there any clarification as to why they are opening resorts with no park availability or will there be limited park access from June 22 to July 11 for DVC reservations?

  • We had a week long planned stay and now will be forced to lose our points if we don’t go since the resort is open but the parks are closed! So sad…

  • We have a reservation for 4 days after the resorts open, and I’m kindof disappointed in the schedule and order. I’d been waiting for DVC to cancel it automatically and allow for our expiring points to extend (as they’re doing for people who were canceled during the closure). As-is we’ll probably just lose the points. If that’s the worst of it I’m well aware that we’re very lucky, and I’m grateful our family is safe and healthy.

fwiw logistically, we couldn’t get there even if we wanted to. We’re still on shelter in place and our airport is shut. When that’s no longer the case, DH’s work has a travel ban extending indefinitely. And we never make that trip lightly – there’s no way we would go without being able to go to the parks, although it might be different if we lived closer or even in the same country.

  • They are opening Disney Vacation Club (timeshare) resorts, not regular rooms that people pay cash for. There is potentially some legal issues if they leave DVC closed for too long, since this is an actual percentage real estate ownership. Plus, DVC guests are probably more likely to be fine with a resort only, non-park, stay. Regular resorts are opening later, maybe closer to when the parks open.

  • Is it odd, they are opening the hotels before the parks? unless they are making park entry exceptions for these people. I wouldn’t go all the way to Disney just for the hotel
