Test Track Testing New Technology December 6-7

Epcot – Test Track Test December 6-7, 2011
We often test new concepts and technologies in our parks as part of our ongoing innovation process to make the entire Guest experience even better. As part of that effort, we will be testing a new technology at Epcot at Test Track, December 6-7. The technology we are testing may or may not end up as part of our park offerings.
Off the top of my head, none of our researchers are in Epcot today (we’ll be there tomorrow for the opening of Katsura Grill in Japan) so if any readers happen to be there and see what’s going on today – we’d love to know! Share freely in the comments!

Hey all. I was there on the 7th and was one of the card users, even though I had a Fast Pass. I think it’s basically test to replace the current red cards they give out, or to get better data of the rider all the way through the ride.
I was given a white card at the entry turn style on a lanyard just like the red ones. There was a box about 8″x 8″ that they held the card to for scanning. It had a small dome in the middle with a lighted circle around it. When we scanned it the lighted circle lit up green. They told me to scan it at those boxes along the way.
There was a box at the entry to the ride, another at the loading area before we saw the intro movie (where they route you to door 1, 2, 3), and a last one right before I got into the car. Those boxes were all removed on Saturday when we went back. There was not a box when I exited the car, but someone just took the card.
I briefly chatted with one of the CMs there with the clipboard. He was with Industrial Engineering which is the same major I studied and we chatted about queues and logistics for all of 30 seconds.
My guess is they are either going to replace the red cards with the white. Or they were getting more accurate readings of the guest’s total experience through the ride. How long it takes to go all the way through broken into segments. Perhaps part of their next gen project?
All in all it wasn’t anything special.
The car 5-6 riders were receiving some type of card to scan before boarding and then they were collected when they got off.
Was it card with RFID?
Just got off. Lots of official looking CMs with clipboards. Only thing we noticed is that they are NOT using the preshow on any of the queues.
They didn’t use the shows when we were there in August either.
We went to Test Track today & didnt see anything different. Must have been subtle.
