Walt Disney World Getting New Resort Near Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort

Disney Vacation Club has always been “Disney’s Worst Kept Secret” especially when it revolves around new locations for Disney Vacation Club Resorts. (I mean, who else remembers when they were actively building Bay Lake Towers and said it was nothing.) So, if you’ve been paying attention to the Disney rumor mill, you would know that the former location of Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort’s River Country (Walt Disney World’s first water park which closed down in 2001) was slated to be the next location for DVC. It has now been announced that the resort is official.

This new nature-inspired Disney resort will welcome families in 2022 and it will be situated along the shoreline of Bay Lake between Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. This new resort will not just be for Disney Vacation Club members though; it will actually be a deluxe resort that will include more than 900 hotel rooms and the Disney Vacation Club villas spread across a variety of unique accommodation types. Disney says that this new resort will be themed to complement the natural surroundings and while the resort has yet to be named, it is slated to be Disney’s 16th Disney Vacation Club property.

As far as the theme goes, according to Disney, “This resort experience will be a celebration of Walt Disney’s lifelong love and respect for nature, with some fun and even surprising accommodation types that families will find irresistible,” said Terri Schultz, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Vacation Club. “It will give our members and guests yet another opportunity to stay in close proximity to all the newest attractions and experiences in our theme parks, and with the flexibility, value and world-class service families expect from Disney.”
