Disney in a Minute: What is the Harmony Barber Shop?
We’re here with a series of quick posts, “Disney in a Minute,” bite-sized nuggets of information that can better help you understand a Disney term or planning topic. Enjoy!
Nestled near the Firehouse at the end of Main Street, U.S.A. in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom lies a nostalgic gem: the Harmony Barber Shop. Picture-perfect in its vintage facade and adorned with a classic red-and-white striped pole, this quaint establishment is not just any ordinary barbershop—it’s a beloved haven where whimsy meets tradition, making it a must-visit for many Disney enthusiasts.
Entering the Harmony Barber Shop feels like being transported to a bygone era. The interior features classic barber chairs and vintage decor that harkens back to the turn-of-the-century (well, the turn of the 1900s, not the more one) in a small town in middle America.
Rather than being a decorative facade, like many Disney establishments, the Harmony Barber Shop is a fully functional business, where you really can get a haircut. While people of all ages can get at trim, Harmony Barber Shop is a particularly popular place to get a child’s first haircut. The old-timey vibe makes a sweet backdrop for milestone photos. Additionally, children getting their first haircut receive a certificate, a keepsake lock of hair, and a commemorative Mickey ear hat.
Theme park entry tickets are required to access the Harmony Barber Shop. Prices start at about $8, plus tip, for an adult beard trim and go up to about $30 for the first haircut package. Advance reservations (available via the Walt Disney World website or My Disney Experience app) are recommended. A limited number of walk-ins may be available. Also be aware that the Barber Shop has different hours than the rest of Magic Kingdom, typically opening at about 10:00 a.m. and closing at about 5:00 p.m.
