A Workaround for Entering Lightning Lane Return Times in the Lines App (This Week Only)

We have been hard at work updating the TouringPlans Lines app to work with all the changes coming to Walt Disney World. We still need to test the changes and learn all the ways Disney Genie, Genie+, Lighting Lanes, and Individual Attraction Selection/Individual Lightning Lane Selections work. In the meantime here are a few hacks to help you and us. We expect an update to the Apple and Android Lines app before the end of October.

Using a Touring Plan and Lightning Lane

Step 1 – Create a Touring Plan

Create a new Touring Plan with all attractions, breaks, and meals you desire.

Step 2 – Select a Lightning Lane return time in the MyDisneyExperience app

At, or after, 7:00 a.m. using the MyDisneyExperience app, select a Lightning Lane return time.

Select an attraction from your TouringPlan with a high predicted wait time and an early return time. With the above example, let’s pick Haunted Mansion with a Lightning Lane return time of 12:15.

Step 3 – Update the Touring Plans

For this temporary workaround, we’re going to add a placeholder (in this case, as a meal) to the touring plan to represent the time for the Lightning Lane reservation. Add a “Lightning Lane reservation” to a touring plan by clicking the modify button. Click the “Meals” button. Find a quick-service restaurant close to the attraction. Set the time as 30 minutes after the Lightning Lane return time. Set the duration to 30 minutes and flexibility to 30 minutes. Click Save, and Save Plan.

Delete the attraction that you have a Lightning Lane reservation for from the plan and then click the Optimize button.

After optimizing the plan, the added restaurant is the time window to use the Lightning Lane.

Step 4 – Tour and Repeat

Follow the Touring Plan. Mark attractions “done” as you work through the plan. Repeat steps 2-3 for additional Lightning Lane return times.

Alternative Workarounds

  • If you are unfamiliar with the Disney restaurant locations, use a break instead of a meal. The walking times in the plan will just be less accurate.
  • If adding a break or meal seems too complicated, just skip that step. After you get your Lightning Lane attraction reservation:
    • Delete the attraction from the plan
    • Optimize the plan
    • Follow the plan until your return window
    • Ride your Lightning Lane attraction
    • Get your next Lightning Lane reservation through the MyDisneyExperience app

Timing Your Lightning Lane Wait Times

The updated Lines app in the future will allow users to time their wait time in the Lightning Lane. The Lightning Lane wait times will very important in our statistic models. To help us out in the meantime, tweet your Lightning Lane wait times with the hashtag #LLwaittimes. Remember to include the attraction name.

Thank you all for your support, and enjoy this short video.
