Bugs ‘n Grubs Ice Cream is Summer in a Cone

The Bugs ‘n Grubs ice cream at Trio-Bites at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is basically worms and dirt, but in ice cream form. And it’s exactly what summer should be: sweet, fun, and more than a little bit messy.

This $5.99 treat (also available as a snack credit on the Disney Dining Plan) is soft-serve ice cream, topped with chocolate cookie crumbs, gummy worms, and a chocolate bug, served in a green waffle cone. The default ice cream flavor is chocolate because, duh, it’s the color of dirt, but we were in a vanilla mood, so they made a switch for us. It’s basic soft serve vanilla, sweet and creamy, but not too challenging, which is exactly what we wanted.

One word of warning: When it’s hot out (and when is it not hot at Disney World), this soft serve ice cream melts FAST. They serve the cone wrapped in white wax paper so it doesn’t gush all over you. The melt factor is another reason we got vanilla – that flavor is less likely to stain rather than with chocolate.

Is this treat on your summer list? Would you eat the ice cream or the worm first? Let us know your strategy in the comments.

  • It’s also at the Anandapur Ice Cream truck! I picked mine up there this weekend. 🙂

  • Yeah, but OMG that Smoky Bones chocolate shake!! Who could EVER say “no” to a chocolate shake with bourbon and candied bacon?!? Possibly the most decadent thing we had on our recent 12-day trip down there.
