Disney in a Minute: What are the Main Street Vehicles?

Have you ever walked down the Magic Kingdom’s Main Street and seen old-fashioned cars and buses driving down the street? Those are the Main Street Vehicles and you are welcome to ride in them.

On most mornings (weather permitting), Main Street Vehicles will be available for the first one to three hours that the park is open. The vehicles go back to their garage when the crowd levels get too thick for them to safely make their way down the street. The vehicles make a circular loop, from the front of Town Hall near the park entrance to the front of Cinderella Castle and back again.

While these rides may seem fancy and exclusive, regular guests are welcome to hop on for a ride. The price is included with your regular park admission. If you want to partake, arrive first thing in the morning and wait near the “Omnibus” sign at the front of Town Hall. When the vehicles appear, just ask if you can board. The double decker bus is the most commonly appearing vehicle, but others sometimes run as well.

I recently rode on the top of the omnibus and found it quite a hoot, with other guests smiling and waving at the passengers. If you’re a photographer, riding on the top deck of the bus is nice way to get a different vantage point than usual on the Main Street happenings.

Have you been on a Main Street Vehicle? What was your experience like?

  • Can you ask to hop OFF anywhere along the route? Or do you have to ride it back to the pickup location?

    • I suppose you could ask, but I’ve never seen the cars/bus stop anywhere other than the end nodes. Most guests disembark at the opposite end of Main Street from where they boarded, it’s not meant to be a full-circle ride. The route is very short, just from one end of Main Street to the other. There is no time saving involved in using these vehicles, they can’t go any faster than the people walking around them, lest the mow them down, plus there is a bit of time taken up by loading and unloading the vehicle.
