What is Mr Toad’s Wild Ride?

Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride is one of the more iconic classic dark rides in Disneyland’s Fantasyland. You’ll board a motorcar and be whisked on a twisty path through mostly two-dimensional scenes with effects, following a story which I will charitably describe as delightfully absurd.

Where is Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride?

Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride is located in Fantasyland to the right of King Arthur’s Carrousel as you pass through the castle, between Peter Pan’s Flight and the Mad Tea Party.

mr toadMr. Toad’s Wild Ride History

Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride was an opening day attraction at Disneyland, and has amassed a dedicated following as a result. It’s based upon the movie The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, the Wind in the Willows scenes in particular. The facade received an overhaul in 1983 and the attraction has received some technical upgrades over the years, but a large part of its charm is that it’s a very low-tech experience compared to modern attractions, and it still has the feel of an opening day attraction in a lot of respects.

What You Need to Know About the Mr. Toad Wild Ride Queue

The queue for Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride is pretty unremarkable, and is basically just a series of switchbacks.  A significant amount of the queue is outdoors; there is some shade, but no other meaningful protection from the elements. The queue is narrow and will not accommodate wheelchairs or ECVs, so guests using those will not use the queue and will instead check in with the attendant at the access gate to the right of the entrance.

What is the Ride Experience Like for Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride?

Caution, spoilers ahead. The ride experience for Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride is, in a word, odd. You’ll travel helter skelter through Toad Manor, across the countryside and other locales, all while evading police. That lands you in Court, and the ride culminates with a visit to Hell. Because, of course, why not? Anyway, the ride itself is pretty tame from the motion standpoint — it’s a little jerky, but it’s short and doesn’t typically present physical problems for most people. It does have some loud noises, however, and again, the ride literally takes you to Hell, so it can freak out smaller children.

What are the Ride Vehicles Like for Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride?

The attraction uses two-person buggy-style vehicles. You MIGHT be able to squeeze a small child in there as well, but they are rather narrow and are really intended for two. A lap bar serves as the restraint.

What You Need to Know About Accessibility for Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride

Guests do need to be able to transfer into the ride vehicle to be able to ride Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. Again, guests in wheelchairs and ECVs will not use the main queue; instead, check in with the attendant at the access gate to the right of the entrance. Handheld Captioning and Audio Description are available at Guest Relations for guest with hearing or visual impairments, respectively.

What You Need to Know About Health and Safety Warnings for Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride

Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride does not carry any special safety warnings and is intended to be appropriate for all audiences. With that said, the ride can be jerky, which some riders may find uncomfortable. It does utilize strobe lights, so be aware if you or someone in your party is sensitive to them.

What are the Height Restrictions for Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride?

There are no height restrictions for Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, but guests under 7 must be accompanied by someone 14 or older.

Does Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride Offer FastPass?

No.

Does Weather Affect Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride?

The attraction is indoors and will run rain or shine. With that said, a significant portion of the queue is outdoors and uncovered, so you might get wet if you’re forced to wait outside.

What’s the Best Time of Day to Experience Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride?

Despite being one of the least technologically advanced rides in any Disney park, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride remains a crowd favorite that will generate long lines that form at the start of the day and never really relent. Target the first hour the park is open for the shortest standby waits. Also, note that the attraction will close early with the rest of Fantasyland when the fireworks are being shown; check for closure times during your visit if you’re looking to experience the attraction later in the day. This chart shows the average peak wait time based upon crowd level. For more accurate predictions, check our Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride Wait Times for the date of your visit.
