Everything You Need to Know About Renting an ECV in Walt Disney World

It’s easy to cover several miles a day during a Disney World vacation. If walking those miles isn’t an option for you or someone in your party, renting an ECV, or Electric Convenience Vehicle, may be useful. ECVs are also commonly known as “scooters” and they’re available for rent in all four Disney parks, both water parks, and Disney Springs.

In this post:

Disney ECV Rental Rules, Restrictions, and Tips for the Four Parks

The EPCOT Main Gate ECV rental location.
  • Disney ECV rentals do not leave the park where they’re rented. If you pay for an ECV rental in EPCOT, you won’t be able to leave the park with that ECV.
    • Each Disney World park has courtesy wheelchairs that should be available at the entrances and in parking lots. If you do not see a courtesy wheelchair, ask a transportation Cast Member for assistance.

ECVs at the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom:

    • $85 per day with a refundable $20 deposit. Your deposit will be returned when you turn in your rental at the end of your day.
    • Total cost per day = $65

There are no multi-day rental options and ECVs are available on a “first come, first served” basis with two important caveats. First, if you arrive at a park and know you won’t need an ECV until later in the day, you may pay your rental fee and the ECV will remain reserved for you until you claim it using your paid receipt. Another way to “reserve” your conveyance is to rent your ECV, return it to the rental location and alert the attending Cast Member that you are leaving the park but will be back to that same park later in the day. They will hold your scooter for you until your return.

You may park hop and request an ECV in your subsequent park(s), but there is no reservation system and no guarantee that a scooter will be available in your next park.

ECV Virtual Waitlist

During busy times, ECVs may run out early in the day and guests will be asked to join a Virtual Waitlist on the My Disney Experience app as shown in the photo above. Guests are entered in the waitlist in the order they join and no priority will be given to guests who have a paid rental in one park and are hopping to another park with their receipt. So, just because you were able to get a scooter in the Magic Kingdom for the morning, there is no guarantee and no refund if you are unable to secure a scooter in one of the other three parks the same day.

EPCOT is the only Disney World theme park that has two entrances and two ECV rental locations. While the stock is minimal at the International Gateway entrance between the UK and France pavilions, they do have ECVs available. We confirmed recently that if either EPCOT location does not have an ECV to rent, they will call the other desk and hold an available scooter for you while you make your way across the park. As of the date of this article Cast Members will not be able to deliver the ECV to you.

Other things to remember:

  • Disney ECVs have a weight limit of 450 pounds.
  • Only one person may use an ECV at one time no matter the combined weight.
  • Guests must be 18 years of age to rent and operate ECVs. A Photo ID is required.
  • You can park your ECV anywhere in the parks for any length of time. Be sure to park it in a designated parking area or a Cast Member may relocate it a few yards away for you.
  • ECV rain covers are not provided. An adult poncho should keep your ECV protected provided you secure it from blowing away in the wind. Chip clips from any dollar store come in handy for this purpose.

ECV Rentals at Water Parks and Disney Springs

  • Daily ECV rentals are transferable between all Disney World locations.
  • The same usage rules apply to ECVs rented in both Disney Water Parks and Disney Springs.
  • Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach, and Disney Springs have ECV rental locations.
  • $165 per day with a refundable $100 deposit. Your deposit will be returned when you turn in your rental at the end of your day.
  • Total cost per day = $65

ECV rental locations around Walt Disney World

Magic Kingdom and EPCOT ECV rental locations
  • The Magic Kingdom rental location is to the far right after you tap into the park. The rental desk is inside a small merch location that also rents wheelchairs. Strollers are not rented here but can be found in the tunnel under the Main Street Railroad.
  • EPCOT has two ECV rental locations. The larger spot is to the left of Spaceship Earth just after you tap into the park. This location also rents strollers and wheelchairs. The second EPCOT rental location is at the International Gateway entrance at the exit to the World Traveler merch location. They also rent strollers and wheelchairs here. You may rent from one EPCOT location and return your ECV to the second location.
Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom ECV rental locations
  • The Hollywood Studios ECV rental location is at Oscar’s Super Service to the far right after you tap into the park. You can find stroller and wheelchair rentals at this same location.
  • Animal Kingdom’s ECV rental desk is located at Garden Gate Gifts on the far right after you enter the park. Strollers and wheelchairs can also be rented here.
Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon ECV rental locations
  • Blizzard Beach ECVs can be rented at the Beach Haus~ the first building you’ll see after you enter the park.
  • Typhoon Lagoon ECVs may be rented at Singapore Sal’s. This merch location is where you’ll also secure your towels for the day.
Disney Springs ECV rental locations

Disney Springs has three rental locations. You may rent from any of the three and return your ECV at any location. Locations include:

  • Marketplace Shipping: Located near Once Upon a Toy and Disney’s Pin Traders.
  • Welcome Center: This location is in the center of Disney Springs close to D-Luxe Burger and the Disney Ticket Center.
  • Sundries: This location is closest to Disney bus transportation.

ScooterBug ECV Rental Information

ScooterBug ECVs

Although Disney World guests are permitted to bring their own mobility devices into any park, ScooterBug is the only “featured provider” endorsed by Disney. They are also the only third party ECV / scooter rental company that is authorized to drop off and pick up your rental at your Walt Disney World resort without you being present. Disney Cast Members are able to receive and hand off ECV rentals from ScooterBug. They are not authorized to do this with other third party providers which means you will need to be present for drop off and pick up of the device.

ECVs are left with Bell Services at your resort if you are not available when ScooterBug delivers.

If you’re planning to use an ECV for more than one day during your Disney World vacation, ScooterBug prices make more financial sense than a Disney rental. This isn’t an endorsement, by the way. We do not have a relationship with ScooterBug, we’re just using the pricing information found on their website for ECVs similar or better than the ones you can rent in Disney World.

The graphic above shows that a 2-day rental from ScooterBug for the ECV model shown is $115. Two days of ECV rentals in Disney parks would cost you $65 a day for a total of $130. The value increases with each additional day.

The Disney website has a link to ScooterBug or you can search for reservations on your own at scooterbug.com/orlando.

Getting Around

ECVs, no matter where they are from, are welcome on nearly all Walt Disney World Transportation options.

  • Disney Resort Buses
    • There is a separate queue for guests using mobility devices. Guests using ECVs will load onto the bus first and be the last to exit the bus when you reach your destination.
    • The transportation Cast Member will greet you at the bus stop and confirm your party. The bus will be lowered and a ramp will be placed at the middle door of the bus.
    • The Cast Member will direct you when it’s time to drive your ECV up the ramp onto the bus. They will secure your device before allowing other guests onto the bus.
    • Your party will be able to board the bus with you.
    • Once you reach your destination, other exiting guests will depart the bus first and then the Cast Member will complete the reverse steps. The bus will be lowered, the ramp will be placed down, your ECV will be unstrapped from its locked position, and you will be able to drive your ECV off the bus.
    • A limited number of ECVs are allowed on each bus. Keep this in mind when you’re traveling during busy times as it may impact your plans.
  • Skyliners
    • ECVs are able to load onto the Skyliner.
    • Alert a Skyliner Cast Member and they will direct you to an “off track” gondola that will allow you to load from a stopped position.
    • Although less complicated that the restraints used on Disney buses, your ECV will be blocked into place before you depart. Another Cast Member will assist with disembarkation at your destination.
  • Monorails
    • ECVs are welcome to access any monorail line.
    • A monorail Cast Member will ensure there is room for you in car and will place a metal ramp down to allow you access. A waiting Cast Member at your destination will provide a similar ramp for your exit.
  • Ferry to and from the Ticket and Transportation Center
    • This is an easy “drive on / drive off” process since these boats are enormous and offer lots of space for all types of mobility devices.
  • Resort Launches
    • ECVs are not allowed on smaller resort launches or water taxis running between Magic Kingdom resorts and the park.
  • FriendShip Boats and the Sassagoula River Cruise
    • ECVs may load onto FriendShip Boats traveling between EPCOT resorts, EPCOT, and Hollywood Studios.
    • The Sassagoula River Cruise Ferries are also able to transport ECVs on their routs between Disney Springs, Port Orleans, Old Key West, and Saratoga Springs.
  • Minnie Vans by Lyft
    • There are accessible Minnie Vans that can accommodate ECVs and other mobility devices. These Minnie Vans will be clearly identified on the Lyft app.
