The Magic, The Memories, and Merch! December 2013 Photo Report of the Disney Outlet Store

MMM positiveIt’s CHRISTMAS! Santa has arrived and delivered presents to all the good little boys and girls, so this is a great day to lather ourselves up in pixie dust, strap on our Gaston’s Tavern Barrel Hat, and put on our Mickey Mouse “Swaggy” shirt as we head out for our monthly photo report of the Disney Outlet Store and see the type of gifts for which “coal” is a better option.

Faithful readers of the MMM have seen a slow trickle of 2013 branded merchandise appear at the outlets over the past few months, and now the flood gates have officially been opened.

2013 Disney Merchandise. Going once, going twice….

Pretty much every thing you can think of with “2013” on it has shown up, including backpacks and European carry alls…

Hoodies…

IMG_0722
Ok, who out there says “twenty 13”?

That 2013 Matchbox plane you were looking for… ($5.99)

IMG_0724
“That better not be a snow globe in your carry on…”

A Heroes/Villains shirt which I really wanted to like but I just can’t with the awful color design ($14.99)

IMG_0727

I also like this “four parks” 2013 shirt ($10.99)

IMG_0729

Looking inside the shirt gives a quick glimpse of exactly what makes America great…

IMG_0731
A shirt that is XL everywhere across the world is considered a Large in America. Don’t worry, in future years that will be changed. Soon it will be considered a Medium.

I was VERY excited to see some new 2013 Epcot Food & Wine merch show up, including these plastic plates, which normally sell for $5.95 at the festival, reduced to just 99 cents.

IMG_0777
I bought four of these and literally have no idea when I could ever use them or what cup could possibly fit in that cup holder.
IMG_0782
Food & Wine character chef shirt (was $21.95 now $7.99)
IMG_0779
Food & Wine jacket (was $49.99 now $18.95)
IMG_0786
Food & Wine drink koozies for $3.99 each
IMG_0787
Food & Wine hat ($6.99)

This Food & Wine Half Marathon long sleeve shirt is only $18.99, a far cry from its original $49.95 price tag.

IMG_0784

I enjoyed these WDW “1971” shirts (all around $12.99)

IMG_0741

There were some smatterings of Halloween related merchandise around the store, but very few official Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party items.

IMG_0755
It’s a little odd how few “cool” Haunted Mansion items there are, especially shirts. This one is $17.99
IMG_0766
$19.99

Trick or Treat lantern. The head pops open. It seems to hold about five “fun size” candy bars. $7.99.

Vampire Perry the platypus from Phineas and Ferb.

I had not noticed CDs before. There were a total of four. There was only one copy of these Tapestry of Nations CD. Made in 2001. It was $19.95.

Other CDs included one for Animal Kingdom, one that included music from various parades around Walt Disney World, and the soundtrack for The Lone Ranger. Out of the four CDsl all were full price with no discounts except one. I BET YOU CAN”T GUESS WHICH ONE WAS REDUCED.

Nothing makes you feel older than seeing a list of musicians on the cover of a CD and realizing you don’t recognize a single one.

IMG_0803
This CD had music from the Share A Dream Come True Parade from Magic Kingdom, Disney Stars and Motorcars Parade Medley from DHS, and Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade music from Animal Kingdom

These two piece D23 luggage sets were $99.95 each.

Behind the counter they had this shower curtain that is used in the Finding Nemo suites at the Art of Animation resort.  I remember when AoA opened there seemed to be a lot of talk about how you would be able to buy items that are used inside the rooms, but other than shower curtains I haven’t seen anything else for sale. Judging by the fact that the shower curtains are now in the outlet stores, that’s not a good sign we’ll be seeing more items become available. That’s a shame because there is some really cool stuff in those rooms. I know I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on one of those ottomans that look like a tree stump in the Lion King suites.

Also behind the counter were a pair of Helly Hansen boots and satchel bag. I literally thought “Helly Hansen” was a character from The Lone Ranger movie until my girlfriend pointed out it’s a clothing manufacturer.

Presented without comment….

These Mickey Christmas “toothpick holders” aren’t too bad (were $24.95 now $9.99)

IMG_0753

For you Disney Olszewski collectors, here’s a pretty stunning piece of work. Faithfully reproducing the theme parks to scale, here is the “Disney Clothiers & East Main Street.” I can definitely see the attraction in these and would do anything for something similar for Universal’s Islands of Adventure.

IMG_0826

Let’s look at one of the “collectibles” I just don’t understand at all: Mickey ear ornaments. Keep in mind these originally sold for $27.99 each and are now $6.99.

Nothing says Christmas like Chernabog.

I want to go into 2014 on a good note, so we’re only going to look at one Vinylmation this week.

IMG_0734
WHAT IS THIS?!!!

And we’re going to close on my all time favorite item ever seen at the Disney Outlet Store. My jaw dropped seeing this in person.

IMG_0817
The original MyMagic+

AMAZING!!!! I cannot believe this exists! It’s like BlackBerry and My Disney Experience had a baby.

IMG_0814
“It’s just that simple!”

I love that there is a button that says “insert.” What could you possibly insert in this besides your suicide note? All I can picture is the booklet of directions included being even more incomprehensible than the directions for my Transformers Evac action figure. I love absolutely everything about this item and want to buy one for every single one of my theme park friends. ($7.99)

That’s it for this month’s trip to the outlet store. I hope you enjoyed the ride this year, and I hope to see you again in 2014!

IMG_0818There are actually two Disney outlet stores in Orlando. Both are in Orlando Premium Outlet shopping complexes, and they are called Disney’s Character Warehouse, presumably because The Land Of Misfit Toys was already trademarked. There is one Character Warehouse located on International Drive close to Universal Studios (4951 International Dr, Orlando, FL 3281), and the other is on Vineland Avenue, right across I-4 near the exits to Disney World (8200 Vineland Ave, Orlando, FL 3282). For this edition of MMM, we went to the location near Universal.

  • Derek, I remember getting one of those PDA-things in the mid-2000s. Probably around 2004/2005. They’ve been holding onto them for quite a while. They were crappy then, which makes them super crappy now. But still makes me a little nostalgic.

  • I do so enjoy this series, no matter how smarmy or tongue-in-cheek you get. And I’m speaking as someone with a houseful of Disney “stuff” that needs culling…it looked so good when I bought it! 🙁 What was I thinking?!?!

  • Love the posts- keep ’em coming. Just an FYI- those Food and Wine plates you bought are designed to hold a stemmed wine glass. Stem goes through the hole, bowl of glass sits on plate. Allows you a free hand to eat and drink with. Quite useful, and a steal at 99 cents!

    • Thanks John, I just tried it out using a wine glass and you nailed it. It was actually hilarious when I bought these as the cashier took forever to hand wrap each plate individually with this ridiculously over-the-top padded protection. I want to tell her that not only were these just 99 cents, but they were made of plastic so there was no need to treat them like the Queen’s fine china.

  • Hi, I just LOVE this series about the outlet store merchandise! Is there a disney outlet store like this one in California, and is it worth the visit?

    • Jenna, sorry to say it seems these outlets don’t seem to be in California, only in Florida.

      • Actualy there are outlets for Disneyland too, the big difference is, rather than having Disney ran outlets, like those WDW has, DL sells a lot of their overstock/out od date items to AMS Character Warehouse, which has a more or less permanent store in Fullerton (just a few miles from Disneyland) and other stores that open temporarily form time to time, they have even had temporary stores open in the Carolinas a time or two at which I picked up a few Disneyland items. http://www.ams-liquidation.com/listings.aspx

      • Thank you for the info Brian. I’d love to see a picture of how they set up that Character Depot store in Fullerton. It’s interesting to see that it’s located next to a Dollar Tree out there and in Orlando it’s at the Premium Outlets and near more high end stores.
