Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party on Nov 15, 2009
Thanks to a tip from a reader we’ve noticed that Disney has added an extra Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party on November 15th, 2009.
We’ve added it to our Crowd Calendar.
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Parties place an interesting twist on crowd levels and recommending parks. The shortened hours during the day coupled with the paid event at night make daytime (especially morning) crowds fairly light. You might see crowd levels of 4, 5 or 6 for these days. But the shortened hours also make it difficult to recommend the Magic Kingdom because unless you are using a park hopper ticket it is difficult to cover a full touring plan on a short day. That is why you might see the Magic Kingdom recommended on a day after a Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
This also means that for those of you with a ticket to the evening party daytime touring might make a lot of sense. You can cover the majority of the park during that day with light crowds then come back at night for the festivities.

Recently returned from 2 weeks in Orlando & visited the MVMCP twice (12th & 19th Nov). Both times entered the park around 5pm was issued a wristband but due to light Novemebr crowds managed every attraction we wanted by 7pm. Apart from a tannoy announcement at 6.30pm we saw no cast members asking guests without wristbands to leave. However, you couldn’t go on attractions or claim your ‘treats’ without a wristband.
I expected this to be an exclusive event & purchased the MVMCP tickets in addition to 14-day ultimate tickets purchased in the UK. If we had known, we would have entered the park using those tickets, done the attractions before 7pm, stayed in for the 8.15 parade/9.30 fireworks & missed out on the cookies & cocoa. We would still have seen the Castle Lights & snow (soap) on Main St.
I can only see these tickets as being any value if you didn’t already have a ticket for that day.

I am wondering how crowded Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party usually is in early November. We are considering attending the party on Tuesday, Nov 10th–the day it begins. I would really like to see the festivities (parades, shows, lights), however, don’t want to go if we’re just going to run right into the major crowds we’re trying to avoid.
Also, if we don’t attend MVMCP, will we still be able to see Cinderella’s castle in lights? (i.e., do they only light it for the party)?
The castle is lit as the sun goes down.
If it’s a night that has MVMCP, that will be during the party (probably right at 7pm). If it’s a night without a party, yes the castle will still be lit (and there are still fireworks, just not Christmas themed). On non-party nights, you can still get photopass photographers to take pictures of your group in front of the lit castle, too.
First night events usually do have slightly more of a crowd, but a Tuesday night in the middle of November? You’re safe. Touringplans rates Nov10th as a 4, too, so it’ll be fantastic!
I read somewhere that 12/5 is the pre-taping of the Disney Christmas Day parade at MK. I see that day is listed as an 8 for crowds, but MK is not listed on the parks to avoid.
Is this a day to not attend MK? I’m guessing it would be better to attend a different, park wanted to check.

I see that December 5th is now up to a 10!!! Is that due the parade? We arrive the morning of 5th and are planning to go to Epcot.
If you attend MK on one of the MVMCP dates during the day, but don’t have tickets to the christmas party what time do you hvae to leave the park? Do they clear the whole park before the Christmas Party starts?
We are trying to decide which nights to go to MK while we are at DW 12/4 – 8. I appreciate anyone’s suggestions.
We are not planning on doing Park Hopper.

Hey Kate,
The party officially starts at 7pm, and what they’ve done in the past is stop people without bracelets from entering any attractions at that time. And as the evening goes on, they have Cast Members start checking bracelets on everyone starting from the rear of the park and making their way towards the front of the park in a coordinated fashion, holding up big signs that say “park is now closed for a hard ticket event” or something similar.
This was at least my experience in 2007. Hope this helps!
According to our Crowd Calendar (http://www.touringplans.com/tp2/UG2_index.php?PageID=14), we say MK is the “best park” On Tuesday, the 8th. But if you’re only going during the evening, the 5th and the 7th might be good bets as they are don’t have MVMCP. 7th probably the least crowded.

I’m wondering if the Osbourne Lights affect how quickly one has to line up for Fantasmic. For instance, November 30th, the Osbourne Lights lighting ceremony is at 6pm with Fantasmic showing at 6:30. I’m planning on being at Fantasmic 90 minutes early to be sure and get a seat (first trip to Disney and this is on our don’t miss list). Is that overkill with EMH at the MK and The Osbourne Lights at 6pm?

Hello! What time does MVMCP begin? I had my entire week planned and was planning on going to MK on the 15th. We weren’t set on attending MVMCP so I was wondering if we could purchase tickets the day of, if we felt as though we didn’t get enough out of MK. Thanks!

The event starts at 7pm. You can purchase tickets the day of if it isn’t sold out, but I believe the prices will be a bit higher than buying in advance.

Yes, the Crowd Calendar now includes the updated hours for January.
Also, October hours for the Studios have been updated to reflect the changes to Fantasmic showings and Park Hours.
I was curious if only January gets updated or if the beginning of Feb gets changed also to reflect the general theory that the same slow time with have the same schedule.
Traveling that Jan-Feb split-month week is kinda nice for cost and crowds but having to wait a month to plan the 2nd half of the vacation is a bit of a drag.

Our family of 6 will be going to Magic Kingdom for one day only in our whole lives and it is the week of Nov. 9. I get very anxious about crowds. Is it worth it to go on a day when the Mickey party will happen even though we would not see fire works or an evening parade? I am a little intimidated by a level 6 day on Wednesday. Please advice! Allison
I have been twice this year and have found that the level 6 days were not that bad as long as I stuck to a recommended park. If you only have one day, using a touring plan will also be very beneficial. I would rather go on a 6 day that allows us to see the parades and fireworks than an early closing day that doesn’t. Have a great trip; you’ll love it no matter when you go!!!!
