Some In-Room Refrigerators Disconnected Due to Issues

Disney has sent out a notice that due to a possible defect in some of the refrigerators in a handful of guest rooms, potentially problematic refrigerators have been temporarily disconnected or removed until the issue can be resolved. This will take place in rooms at Walt Disney World, Disneyland Resort, and Aulani in Hawaii.

Guests will be notified by a letter in their rooms if they will be impacted. Guests who need a priority refrigerator (for health-related reasons, etc.) will still be accommodated, when possible.

The replacement of these refrigerators could take several months.

  • I just saw this on UT site as well. Posted this in their comment section

    UPDATE 7/13/2013:
Guests currently in Walt Disney World are reporting back to us with more information on this process. WDWFG Forum Member MrHub tells us “They are definitely not pulling all fridges, just one model.” Disney was asking to check the fridges in occupied guest rooms to be sure all was good. The Manager MrHub spoke with said that “they are just pulling the one model until they get replacements.” Mr Hub is staying at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

    Prior Information
The only resort rooms that will not be affected by this are DVC rooms, cabins at Fort Wilderness, and family suites at The Art of Animation and All-Star Music resorts.

If you are in need of a refrigerator due to medical issues, Disney will have a limited number of refrigerators available on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Am I the only one who thinks this is miserable guest relations on Disney’s part? I have a reservation for a stay in August, and I’m hearing about this through Disney fan sites, not from Disney. Finding out after you get to your room is finding out too late. If there will be no refrigerators, they should just state as much and make necessary amends with guests.

  • I read that one of the fridges in a room at the GCH in DL caught on fire, so I assume that is the reason they are pulling them.

  • Just called Saratoga Springs, because we are going in August and my husband is a type 1 diabetic…they confirmed that the DVC rooms are not affected

  • Thanks, lawyers!

  • Yikes! Not good! This could really negatively impact our food plan/budget in August. If anyone hears how this may affect the rooms at Port Orleans Riverside I would love to see an update.

    • We might be headed to POR in August too and since there’s no free dining this year were relying on the refrigerator for our food. 🙁 I hope they get it resolved quickly.

    • We are bringing a cooler with us to put milk and water in.

  • Yes, this is for real. All resorts as Jennifer said…..although the standard rooms at AoA and ASMusic are also included in the fridge removal. Just the suites in these two will not have fridge removal.

  • Word on the street is ALL refrigerators (with the exception of DVC resorts and the suites at ASMusic and AoA) are being taken out effective immediately and replaced over the next 4 months. Hard to know what exactly is true though with so many rumors floating around.

  • Is this for real?
