The Best Place to Watch the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Outside the Park

This is it. In my opinion, this is the very place to view the Magic Kingdom fireworks outside of the Magic Kingdom Park. This is at the Contemporary Resort, just outside the 4th floor. Exit by the back of the gift shops and stop before you get to the bridge to Bay Lake Tower.

You can see the Magic Kingdom fireworks from spots at the Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Contemporary, and Fort Wilderness, but this is the best because:

  • It’s Elevated. There are viewing spots on the beach areas at all the monorail hotels and Fort Wilderness, but an elevated view is much better. Much of the fireworks show is actually projections on the castle. You can’t really see that from the beach, or anywhere on ground level.
  • It’s Free. Sure, you can see the fireworks from the California Grill at the Contemporary, but we don’t always have the time or money to do that.
  • It’s Open to All. The Top of the World Lounge at Bay Lake Tower is a good viewing spot, but if you’re not a DVC member, then you’re out of luck.
  • You Can Hear the Music. Some, but not all, Magic Kingdom fireworks locations have the show music piped in; this is one of them.
  • Transportation is Easy. From this spot, you’re just steps away from the monorail line. Or if you need a bus, you can walk less than ten minutes to be back at the main Magic Kingdom bus stop.
  • There’s Seating. Look, real chairs! You don’t have to worry about getting dirty or wet as you would sitting on the grass or sand elsewhere.
  • It’s Partly Under Cover. Some of this area is under an overhang, meaning you’re protected from the elements if it happens to be spritzing.

What do you think? Do you have a favorite out-of-the-park fireworks viewing spot? Let us know in the comments.

  • Where is the best spot to see MK Fireworks and the Electric Water Pageant?

  • Thanks for the tip. We’re off on Saturday and I know where you mean but never been out there, will try this next week.

  • Well it won’t be empty now that you told everyone… Amazing why people tell everyone everything ..

  • So can you see the projections? How early do we need to arrive?

    • If the weather is good, you can see a lot of the projections. As I mentioned in a comment above, the crowd level varies a lot. I’ve seen it be nothing and I’ve seen it packed. In most circumstances, you should be fine arriving 20 mins or so in advance.

      • Thanks Erin! This is VERY helpful because if we are unable to find seats at the Cali Grill lounge to get a recpt for access, we have a back-up.
We are planning to view the New MVMCP FWs from the Contemporary in Dec. Hope it’s not too crowded on Thurs 12th.

  • Only a matter of time until Disney monetizes this spot now. I remember years ago when the Unofficial Guide used to tout Tomorrowland Terrace as a relatively uncrowded protected from the rain elevated spot. Then the dessert parties started. I hope Disney pays Touring Plans a cut of the DP profits lol.

  • Is there usually a crowd up there? Wondering how early we’d have to arrive to actually get one of those seats – and how likely it is that someone will come and stand in front of us at the last minute….

    • A lot depends on the weather and the crowd level in general. I’ve seen it packed, but I’ve also seen it nearly empty. The odds of someone standing in front of you during the show are fairly high, but if you arrive early you can sit at least until showtime. I’ve been able to sit in the chairs unobstructed several times myself, but that usually happens when it’s chilly.
