WDW Snow White’s Scary Adventures to Close June 1, 2012
Disney has confirmed that Snow White’s Scary Adventures at the Magic Kingdom park in the Walt Disney World Resort will be closed permanently on June 1, 2012. It will be replaced with a new princess meet/greet area as part of the ongoing New Fantasyland expansion. A new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train roller coaster is being built as part of the new expansion, as well, so Snow White will be represented in the park–it just won’t be with the old classic dark ride anymore. There is no word of any special events for the ride’s last operational day, May 31, 2012.
So what are they going to do with the princess meet and greet on Main St? Are they going to have 2 princess m&g’s at the same time, with different princesses at each location?
The meet/greet on Main Street – the princess side only mind you – has always been viewed as temporary. That’s why it’s not as finished looking at the Mickey/Minnie side.
In theory the Princesses will move to the new location and something else will move into their slot, with a bit of a retheme to the room. We’ve heard everything from Fab 5 to Faries, so it’s a bit up in the air.
This is my 11-year old daughter’s all time favorite Magic Kingdom ride. I don’t know why…she just has an attraction to this attraction! We only come every three years, and we will be there in May…..she will be sad.
Another Meet & Greet? Disney needs to replace rides with rides.
It’s really a cool and helpful piece of information. I’m satisfied that you shared this helpful info with us. Please stay us up to date like this. Thanks for sharing.
One of the most retold Disney memories in my family is of this ride. My first visit to WDW was a a toddler in the mid-1970s. My parents were so excited to take their daughter on the cute looking Snow White ride (scary wasn’t in the title yet). Everything was wonderful until the first appearance of the old hag – as I then began screaming at the top of my lungs and didn’t stop until we were off the ride and down the street. It did of course become a favorite ride of mine. Luckily I’ll be there in April for one last ride.
I’ll miss this attraction, but I’m looking forward to the New Fantasyland Expansion! I am glad that my Wife and I got to ride it “one last time” in Feb.!
I liked SWSA for nostalga mostly, but I just don’t get taking out a ride and putting a meet and greet in its place? I understand the logic of having them closer to the castle, and I am excited for the new mine- coaster and to see the new FL, but would rather the meet & greets were not considered “attractions”. I miss the old random interactions with a quick pic.
Arrrgh! I next arrive in Orlando on June 1, 2012! Oh well, at least we rode it last summer. Time to roll with the changes…
I’m not terribly surprised. When my husband and I visited last May, this attraction seemed run-down and overworked. We really only went because the line was short and it was about 95 degrees out!
