Disney Cruise Line in a Jiffy: What is a Stateroom Host?
When you’re sailing with Disney Cruise Line, the staff member that you’re likely to see the most is your stateroom host. The stateroom host is somewhat equivalent to a housekeeper or maid that you’d find in a land-based hotel, but a stateroom host does more.
A hotel housekeeper typically cleans your room daily and, in a posh hotel, might provide turn-down service in the evening. A DCL stateroom host does both these things, for every room category, every day. They bring your luggage to your stateroom after embarkation and they’ll take it away on the last night. Additionally, the stateroom host is your main point of contact for anything and everything you might need for your room. Need an extra pillow, towels, hangers, a pack and play crib, or a bucket of ice? Ask the stateroom host.
The stateroom host is also the person who configures your room each day. Let them know if your child wants to sleep on the couch bed or on the “top bunk.” They’ll make you towel animals every night of your trip. If you’re celebrating an anniversary, they’ll scatter rose petals on your bed. They are also a great source of information about anything and everything on the ship.
You can generally find your stateroom host working mornings and evenings in the hallways near your stateroom. Definitely communicate with them if you have preferences about when they work on your room. For example, if your child always naps at a certain hour, let them know. Also let them know if you’re deviating from your normal dinner routine so that they can adjust their plan for turndown time if necessary.
Your stateroom host is one of the main tipped positions on the ship, but we often end up slipping them a bit extra because they’ve worked so hard to make our trip special.
