Avengers Campus Pym Test Kitchen Review

Pym Test Kitchen is a quick service restaurant in Avengers Campus, which is the Marvel Avengers-themed area of Disney California Adventure in Disneyland Resort. 87% of TouringPlans readers give Pym Test Kitchen a thumbs up in our surveys, which makes it the seventh highest rated quick service restaurant in Disney California Adventure. How’s the food and what do we recommend? Keep reading to find out.

The theme of Pym Test Kitchen is based off of the Ant-Man and The Wasp series of films. The idea is that the facility is a former lab that has been turned into a restaurant where the food is serves at unusual sizes and scales.

One of the neat features of the interior is a line of pretzels that runs along the middle of the ceiling. Here you’ll see average sized pretzels enter on one side, while leaving large sized on the other.

You can order giant pretzels. But more on that later.

More big things. The beverage area has some giant soda cans coming out of the ceiling. Pipes connect the cans to the beverage machines.

There’s also some giant ketchup and mustard containers. The Bountiful Valley Farm name is a nod to original name of the land when Disney California Adventure first opened.

Not so Little Chicken Sandwich – $15.49 – Fried Chicken Breast, Teriyaki and Red Chili Sauces, and Pickled Cabbage Slaw on Brioche, served with crispy Potato Bites

On to the food. This is certainly one of the more fun items on the menu to look at — a chicken sandwich where the bun was shrunk and the chicken grew. Sadly, the few times I’ve had this over the last couple of years the chicken was dry. The slaw on the chicken sandwich was tasty, and may be the best part of the sandwich. Unless you really want a fried chicken dish, pass on this one in favor of one of the other entrees.

Impossible Spoonful – $14.49 – Rigatoni and Ditalini Pastas, Plant-based Meatballs, Tomato Sauce, Dairy-free Parmesan and Micro Basil

If you’re looking for a plant-based option, we still recommend going to get the falafel shawarma. This dish qualifies as “fine”. The pasta is decent, but not as good as the pasta entrees at Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta.

Humongous Taco Salad – 14.49 – Taco Shell loaded with Romaine tossed in Chipotle Ranch, topped with Chicken, Corn, Bell Pepper, Cotija and Avocado

I enjoyed everything about the Humongous Taco salad, except for the serving size of the salad itself. The taco shell really is gigantic, but unfortunately there’s not a lot of salad here. This salad wont fill you up, unless you eat every bite of the giant greasy taco shell.

It’s too bad because the taste of the salad is great.

Reactor Melt – $14.99 – Garlic Pesto Toasted Sourdough with Mozzarella, Basil and Tomato, served with Potato Bites

The Reactor Melt is nothing fancy, but it’s a solid and tasty sandwich that will please most appetites. You can’t go wrong with a grilled sandwich with pesto and mozzarella in it.

It’s also perfectly gooey.

Pepper Particle Pasta – $14.99 – Campanelli Pasta topped with Grilled Chicken, Spicy Tomato Cream Sauce, Chimichurri and Parmesan

Another crowd pleaser is the Pepper Particle Pasta. This dish has a nice taste thanks to the spicy tomato cream sauce and chimichurri. I also appreciate the generous portion of grilled chicken. Grab this and the giant pretzel to share and you’ve got yourself a decent and filling meal.

Quantum Pretzel – $13.99 – 453.8 grams, Bavarian-style, with Sharp Cheddar Cheese-Beer Sauce

Speaking of the giant pretzel, here it is. The size of this thing is no joke. It’s huge! How does it taste? In my opinion, one of the simple pleasures in life is a warm soft pretzel. The Quantum Pretzel is that, but jumbo sized.

Choco Smash Cake – $8.99 – Layers of Brownie, White Chocolate Peanut Butter Ganache with Crunch Pearls, White Cake, Dark Chocolate Truffle Mousse and White Chocolate Caramel Bavarian Cream, coated in Chocolate Ganache and topped with Roasted Peanuts

If you have a sweet tooth be sure to grab the Choco Smash Cake for dessert. But be warned, this thing is rich. You really can’t go wrong when peanut butter and chocolate are in a cake. While the size is probably big enough to share, you may get in an argument with whoever you’re sharing it with over who gets the last bite.

Experiment 7290: Cookies & Cream Cold Brew – $7.29 – Chocolate Cookie Cold Brew with Sweet Cold Foam

Sure, you could gran a cup of coffee if you need a jolt of caffeine, but if you want a mid-day boost and dessert in a cup then the Cookies & Cream Cold Brew is for you. This thing is sweet.

Proton Punch – $7.49 – Lemonade, Berry Purée, Cherry Flavor-filled Boba and Grenadine-filled Pipette

The Proton Punch is perfect for people looking for a total sugar bomb. I can’t recommended this one because unfortunately it’s way too sweet. It’s also too pricy at $7.49.

On your way out be sure to check out a fun forced perspective effect. They’ve painted a Pym logo on the back of the Animation building in Hollywood Land. This makes it look like the Pym Test Kitchen building is much bigger than it actually is. Fun!

Overall Pym Test Kitchen offers items that aren’t too inventive or mind-blowing in terms of taste or ingredients, but theme is fun, and most of the entrees are solid. Pym is a solid choice for a lunch spot in Disney California Adventure.

What item are you looking forward to trying at Pym Test Kitchen? Let me know in the comments.

  • I agree with this assessment. It is fine and is a solid location with usually some seating available. My favorite thing was when they had that weird soda from Incredible Hulk.

    • I never got to try that Hulk soda. People seemed to like it though.
