Disability Access Service Now Digital at Walt Disney World
Walt Disney World has transitioned its Disability Access Service into an all digital format. Guests will now be able to have the information that was previously recorded on a card now stored on their MagicBand or ticket media.
The Disability Access Service is designed to accommodate those guests who are unable to wait in a conventional queue due to a disability, including those non-apparent disabilities.
To use the updated system, guests who need the Disability Access Service will still need to visit Guest Relations and have their photo taken that will be linked to the MagicBands of your entire party. (This means that you will need to make sure to let Guest Relations know the full number of members of your party. This cannot change, without another stop at Guest Relations.) The maximum number of guests per one Disability Access Service is 6, and it will be valid for 60 days. Paper cards will no longer be issued.
To use the Disability Access Service, it will work just like before where guests will visit the attraction to get a return time by speaking with a Cast Member, who will now scan the MagicBand or ticket of one member of the party. (The guest with the disability doesn’t need to be present when requesting a return time, but will need to be present to ride.) After scanning the MagicBand/ticket, the system will automatically assign a return time based on the current wait time of the attraction; the return time will be the current wait time minus 10 minutes. It will continue that only one Disability Access Service active return time will be able to be made at a time.
When it is time to ride, all Guests wishing to ride must be present in front of the attraction’s FastPass+ entrance. The MagicBand/ticket to be scanned at the attraction’s FastPass+ entrance has to be the one belonging to the Guest with a disability, who must be present to ride. If the Guest with a disability chooses not to ride, the rest of the party will be unable to use the return time and will be directed to the standby line.

The digital conversion of the Disability Access Service should make it much easier for both Cast Members and Guests going forward with this system.

This makes me so happy, my card would get all crunched up or I’d put it away then have to dig it out to show it again.
It’s also great that others in my group can have theirs scanned so I don’t have to walk all the way to the attraction then back again.
Way to go Disney!
They will allow more than 6 under special circumstances with approval of a supervisor/lead.
The circumstances I am aware of include:
– the whole party being family, not groups of friends. They are not likely to limit, for example, a group of 5 children and their parents or 3 children, their parents and grandparents
– everyone must be present at the time DAS is issued
– the biggest group I have heard of was 9. Even with 9, the group might need to split up because of space availability.
I like this but we are a big tech family with smart phones. This may be difficult for those that aren’t. We have been able to get more than 6 in our group in the past. Hoping that still happens, big family. Now if we could just get our DVC connected to it.
Colleen, they changed the limit to 6 people for the Disability Access after the bad press from the Manhattan moms who were hiring people with disabilities to cut lines. We just went last May after the change with 11 people. It was a logistical nightmare and basically we never got to ride anything together that we didn’t all have Fastpass+ for. Talked to cast members and the rules are solid. 6 people per Disability Pass, no exceptions. It was actually very sad for me, because we made the plans for the trip years prior and did not anticipate the change. It does not appear that they will be changing it any time soon either.
Such a shame when people try to scam a system and the folks it is supposed to assist get punished 🙁
