Gluten-Friendly Treats Are a Sweet Surprise at Animal Kingdom Lodge
There are so many iconic foods at Walt Disney World. From popcorn to churros and from turkey legs to Dole Whip, everyone has their favorite. Sometimes it can be frustrating when you have allergies or food sensitivities that you aren’t able to participate in the joy with everyone else. One area where Disney has been making steps forward is by providing options for those with gluten sensitivities, and so I was thrilled to hear that Animal Kingdom Lodge now offers gluten-sensitivity friendly Zebra Domes!
Yes, the iconic dessert from Boma can now be purchased in a gluten-sensitivity-friendly form at The Mara (the quick service location at Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Jambo House). Check out these beauties.
It appears that the major change was simply removing the sponge cake base found in the “traditional” Zebra Domes, which means the essential flavors of chocolate and Amarula are still front and center for this decadent treat.
If Zebra Domes aren’t your thing, The Mara also offers mini cupcake brownies from Erin McKenna’s bakery at Disney Springs. These work amazingly well for people with a wide variety of allergies and sensitivities or dietary choices.
And for those who are able to have their sweets with gluten, The Mara has really stepped up their game with small cakes and themed cupcakes as well.
Are you excited about this addition to The Mara? What other foods would you like to see offered in gluten-free versions? Let us know in the comments.

Gluten free treats ? Please bake some vanilla cupcakes they are not that difficult and kids like to have the same as everyone else. Also gluten free waffles and pancakes could be made ahead of time and frozen Not
Much for kids at the character breakfast Kids with Celiac Disease would love Mickey shaped waffles too My little granddaughter loves carbs too… if I can make things so can Disney chefs. I have an amazing recipe for gluten free pastry for buttertarts or mini pies
I believe that you can get gluten-free dairy-free waffles at character meals. Have you had the chef come to your table? My husband is extremely lactose intolerant, and he often gets a special plate of waffles from the kitchen. It does take a little while because they make them up individually.
This is not new in itself. Boma has had these by request for years. New in the grab and go, however.
