Monorails Down at WDW Due to Lightning Strike

We’ve gotten reports that a power substation that services the monorail lines was struck by lightning around 5:00 pm EST. The system reportedly went down at that time and has not resumed service. Rumor is that the repairs will continue overnight and the monorails may not open tomorrow (Sunday, August 21, 2011).

  • I am at mk now. Took the monorail in from gf this morning so it’s back up. Good thing I was at Dhs yesterday!

  • Hope they fix the monorail before we go. They’ve got a year to get “crackin’ on that!

    • We were at the park last night caught up in the mess resulting from the monorails being down. Let me tell you, it was a brouhaha. There were so many people waiting for the ferry from MK to TTC, the mass of humanity was backed up all the way to the gates! Actually kinda scary! I hate to think about what might have happened had someone yelled “fire” or if there had been a medical emergency amid that crowd.
