New Little Mermaid Show Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Voyage of the Little Mermaid never returned after the COVID-19 closure and everyone has pretty much been assuming it was gone for good. Today, Disney confirmed that’s true — at least in its previous form. The Little Mermaid will still be holding down its space in Animation Courtyard Theater, as Disney is putting on a reimagined version. The new show will be called The Voyage of the Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure, and it will open in Fall 2024.

When it opens, the new show will have new sets, new effects, and “a bold new design that captures Ariel’s imagination and emotions through her unique view of the world around her”. As with most Disney initial announcements, this one is long on adjectives and short on details, but we did get a partial playlist. The new show will include performances of “Part of Your World,” “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” “Kiss the Girl,” and more. The concept art below is from the “Kiss the Girl” scene.

Our Thoughts

Hollywood Studios can be a challenging park to tour with small kids. Only a few rides are completely free of height restrictions, and there aren’t many “lesser attractions” with short wait times to mix in with the headliners. Shows help a lot for family touring, so the return of this one – albeit in a new and updated form – is very welcome. We’ll continue to update here as more news is released.

Are you looking forward to a new version of this show? Are you surprised to hear that Disney finally confirmed the closure of the old one? Let us know in the comments!

Although it took three visits for the Disney bug to "take", she now really wishes she lived a lot closer to the Parks.
