Tables in Wonderland Changes To Take Place August 1

I wrote about this last year, but I wanted to remind everyone. (I did write about it a year ago…so I am sure you’ve likely forgotten.) Effective Friday, August 1, the Tables in Wonderland card will see some changes.

One major change is that select restaurants will see a few more blackout dates. These dates will include–November 23-29; December 21-27; March 8-April 4, 2015; and May 31-June 20, 2015. The restaurants that will be impacted are:

As a reminder, all restaurants that participate in Tables in Wonderland will continue to see blackout dates on Easter Sunday, Mother’s Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day.

Another change that begins on August 1 to the Tables in Wonderland program is that Victoria and Albert’s will no longer participate.

Tables in Wonderland is a special card that can be purchased  by Florida Residents, Annual/Seasonal Passholders, and Disney Vacation Club members. The card offers discounts on food and beverage, including alcohol, at over 100 participating restaurants at the Walt Disney World. Guests also receive complimentary resort valet and theme park parking for dining purposes, as well as invitations to occasional special events.

  • Ehh, nothing significant here…other than Victoria & Alberts, the other restaurants are not any that we visit…mostly buffets and character meals.

  • This is our 1st year with an Annual Pass, and one of the reasons we got it was for Tables in Wonderland. But with more restaurants not taking it (e.g., Chefs de France for dinner) and more blackout dates, it shaves the value off TiW. Add this to some of our other issues with AP right now (e.g., not being able to book FP+ until 30 days out), and I’m not sure we’ll be renewing it.

    • These are the 4 times a year that we are guaranteed to visit WDW. Figures! Disney is making a big mistake with all the changes in recent years to suck as much money from us as possible. After many years of purchasing PAPs and visiting WDW, we skipped purchasing passes last year and barely missed our visits. For much less money, we took the kids to Mexico, where we rented a house on the beach, and to D.C., where we stayed within walking distance of the Mall. We had a blast! Now, I am very sorry we went ahead and got new PAPs in the spring. (Very snowy/icy winter = very little vacation time and WDW was easy.) During our last visit, rooms were scarce and prices were high (not sure why as none of the resorts we visited for meals appeared to be anywhere near full). Thus, we decided to take a chance and stay at a non-Disney resort (Wyndham Bonnet Creek)…and loved it! We also had difficulty making dining reservations where and when we wanted them (and often had to wait long periods of time to be seated when we got them) and as a result discovered we enjoyed grilling meals at our resort, cooking in our full-sized and fully-stocked kitchen, and eating in non-Disney restaurants…all for much less money! This also led us to venturing over to the “dark side” for the very first time. Yes, we purchased annual passes for Universal…and enjoyed it so much that I bet we end up spending more of our October trip there as opposed to WDW. Yep, Disney definitely is losing us!

    • The TIW discount is really only effective for those who eat mostly at the premium restaurants….not for the buffets and character meals. It can be a tremendous tool for savings. For instance, my savings during our recent stay totaled approx. $800, and I will be able to use it for at least two more trips.

  • Just to give a head’s up, over the July 4th holiday, we were told by our server at Les Chefs de France when we visited on July 5th that the blackout for July 4th was not only for that day, but for the whole weekend as it was a “holiday weekend”. We probably could have asked for a manager and hopefully gotten the whole thing cleared up, but it wasn’t worth it for us to deal with the aggravation. Still, if you are visiting around a holiday, be prepared that you may need to talk to a manager to get the discounts properly honored.

  • They did not give us the complementary valet parking though.

  • Although it’s probably worth asking whether you can use your card on blackout dates. Being from the UK we booked Citricos on Mothers’ Day last year without knowing it was a blackout date and they still allowed us to use the TiW card.
