10 Disney Cruise Line Secrets

Disney Cruise Line information is all around these days! There are still a few lesser-known details, or secrets, if you will. Here are 10 of them!

1. Secret Portholes – The Disney Magic and Disney Wonder both have secret porthole staterooms! These are staterooms that are classified as Category 10A – Deluxe Inside Staterooms, but they actually have a porthole. It’s an obstructed porthole, which is why Disney didn’t feel like they could classify it as an oceanview stateroom, but it’s a porthole with natural light nonetheless. That means you’re paying the same price as the other category 10As that have no porthole. They’re a great deal!

2. Secret Suites – The Wish, Treasure, Destiny, and Believe (I’m sure) have a new kind of secret stateroom. I call these secret suites! There is one Concierge stateroom (11006), and two non-Concierge staterooms (6196 and 6696) that are located on the corner of the ship, and the bedrooms have an actual door that closes them off from a living room area. They’re true suites. But there’s nothing in Disney’s description to indicate that, and they are the exact same price as other staterooms in those categories with no separate bedroom area.

3. Secret Room Service – Do you know what’s not listed on the room service menus? Mickey Bars. Do you know what you can get from room service? Mickey Bars. For whatever reason, Disney does not put Mickey Bars on the menu, but they’re available. And a perfect bedtime snack if you’re looking for one.

4. Dining Rooms Have Options – The Main Dining Rooms have more flexibility than it appears at first glance. Do you want more than one entrée? Get it. Multiple desserts? That too. Adults can order off the kids’ menus, and kids can order off the adult menu. Incidentally, that’s how you get Mickey Bars in the main dining rooms. Off the kids’ menu! It’s also possible you can get something from another dining room. On certain nights, when the other dining rooms are serving a different menu, you may be able to order off that. It’s best to ask your server the night before if it’s possible to give them some time to prepare. It’s also much harder for them to do on the Wish-class ships, because they don’t have a central kitchen.

5. The Nightly Shows Are On Your TV – If you don’t think you can make it to the nighttime shows in the Walt Disney Theatre, I’ve got good news! You can watch them on your stateroom TV. In your pajamas if you so choose.

6. There’s a Frequent Coffee Card – If the free coffee onboard isn’t your thing, there is coffee available to purchase in several specialty coffee shops onboard, like Cove Café. If you do that, make sure you ask for the loyalty coffee card, or Café Fanatic card, as it’s usually called. After you purchase 5, you’ll get one free!

7. Dining at 8:15pm With Kids Has Options – 5:45pm dining quickly fills with families (and *ahem* older guests) who don’t want meals to last until past their bedtime. Now that Dine and Play has returned, at least one of these groups doesn’t have to fear late dining quite so much. If your dining time is 8:15pm and you would like your kids to eat quickly and then head to the kids’ clubs while the adults finish their meal, let your servers know, and they’ll bring the kids’ food out early. Around 9:00pm, the counselors will come pick up the kids and take them to the clubs. That way everyone’s happy!

8. There’s a Secret Shopping List – The secret shopping list is one of my favorite things. Guest Services has a list of items from your stateroom that you can purchase. Availability will vary, but Guest Services will have a list of what’s available and how much each item will be. If you decide to buy something, your onboard account will be charged, and you’ll get a brand new item. Who doesn’t want a new set of Mickey towels for their bathroom?

9. There are Other Showers – If your stateroom is starting to feel crowded when everyone’s getting ready, there are very nice showers in the spas onboard that you can use, free of charge. The Wish-class ships are a little more particular about who can use them, so your mileage may vary there. For the Magic- and Dream-class, however, it’s no problem!

10. Connect to Wi-Fi in the Terminal – If there’s an onboard booking you didn’t get before embarkation day, like Royal Gathering, a tasting, etc., log in to the ship Wi-Fi in the terminal before you even board. Many times, you can find availability right there in the app!
