Disney Skyliner Gondola Transportation System to Open in September

I recently stayed at Disney’s Pop Century and watched as the Disney Skyliner would fly across the sky. My excitement for this new transportation system only increased by finally seeing it zooming around in person. I know many people are like me and have been anxiously awaiting the official date for the grand opening of the Disney Skyliner and today we officially have it. It will open on September 29.

The gondola system will transport Guests to two theme parks and four resorts, connecting Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot to four resort hotels – Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and the new Disney’s Riviera Resort, which is scheduled to open in December 2019.

The Disney Skyliner is incredibly unique because it offers a brand new way to experience the resort with amazing views that are only available to Guests from the sky. What makes the Disney Skyliner even more special is is that the many of the cabins feature artwork of your favorite Disney films, attractions and characters. Cabins include Coco, The Haunted Mansion, Goofy, Finding Nemo, Mike and Sulley, The Seven Dwarfs, Beauty & the Beast characters, Star Wars, and more.

The Disney Skyliner was officially announced almost two years ago to to the day back at the 2017 D23 Expo.

If you want to see more of the Disney Skyliner in action, Julia shared an article today with an up close look at some of the gondolas. Take a look yourself.

I have heard a recent report that a Aug 28 date for everything but the Epcot/Rivera line. This was due to ongoing construction around France Pavillion.

i read that as well, and if so, that’s a fail. all routes should be open if they are going to open it at all. i was banking on using this to access epcot from the back way to avoid the construction up front and save a few steps for our breakfast at norway. if it’s not going to be open, that’s a loss to me.

are routes to both HS and Epcot going to be open on the 29th? i had heard the epcot line was behind schedule, and this announcement leaves it very vague. they’ve also not said anything about how exactly transfers will work. i hope this info is publicized before opening.

i don’t mean to sound like a debbie downer, i just don’t want to be a guinea pig. i assumed these would be open well before SWGE to work out any kinks, but instead it’s going to open THE SAME DAY? i want to be optimistic, but that sounds like a recipe for potential disaster. we are visiting labor day week and, while i want to use them, i don’t want to be on the 10:00 news as the first guests stuck on them for any length of time.

i want to ride this, don’t get me wrong. i’ve been looking forward to trying it out. but there are still many unanswered questions. i was wanting to use this to access epcot via the IG entrance to avoid the construction up front, but not sure if that station will be operating. it just says “4 resorts and 2 parks” but doesn’t actually specify if all lines will be running.

SW:GE opens on August 29th, Skyliner opens on September 29th. Not the same day :-).

it’s essentially the same effect. opening weekend for something that massive doesn’t seem like a smart move to me at all.
