The Flames of the Spit-Roasted Chicken Are a Sign, or, Chicken Whimsy

Sunshine Seasons in the Land Pavilion has some new menu items. They’re good and we will review them, but the prep is an excellent step that must be celebrated. We’ll explain.

Sunshine Seasons

At a time when most restaurant food is homogeneous and prices are only climbing, walking into the Land Pavilion and smelling spit-roasted chicken is a delight. The grills at Sunshine Seasons are full flame ahead and a sign that Disney culinary is leading the charge to make guests feel like their vacation dollars are well spent. Roasting chicken on a horizontal spit is labor intensive and also produces some really great, well seasoned theme park food.

Wood-fired Chicken from Sunshine Seasons

Wood-fired Chicken, $12.99

Served with Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, and Chimichurri Rojo

This is legitimately one of the best uses of Len’s $13 in any Disney park. The mashed potatoes are real and the green beans are fresh and have a bite. The skin of the chicken is crispy and the meat is as delicious as you’d expect after spinning over flames and being doused in juice over and over. Seriously. Congratulations to the Disney culinary Cast Member who pushed for this and won.

Beef Barbacoa from Sunshine Seasons

Beef Barbacoa, $13.49

Cilantro-Lime Rice, Black Beans, Onions, Peppers, Cotija, and Pico de Gallo

As proud members of the “Cilantro-Tastes-Like-Soap” crowd, we’d like to fully endorse this rice. The beef is spicy and tender, and the sautéed veg makes the whole bowl a good value. This is the second example of how Disney seems to be trying to elevate quick service food at a reasonable price.

Peanut Butter Cookie with Cookies and Cream Icing from Sunshine Seasons

Peanut Butter Cookie with Cookies and Cream Icing, $5.29

While tasty, please don’t attempt to consume this entire monster on your own. It’s an unusual combo and roughly the size of a bread plate. Plan to share this cookie with at least 3 other people.

Grab ‘n’ Go

Grab ‘n’ Go Power Greens Salad with Chicken from Sunshine Seasons

There are several “grab ‘n’ go” options at Sunshine Seasons:

  • Power Greens Salad with Chicken, $13.79
  • Power Greens Salad, $11.79 *Our pick for the best of the lot*
    • Crisp Greens topped with Feta, Shaved Carrots, Cucumber, Candied Pecans, Golden Raisins, Quinoa, and White Balsamic Vinaigrette
  • Caesar Salad with Chicken, $11.99
  • Roasted Turkey BLT Wrap, $10.99

Many items in the cases above qualify as a Snack Credit on the Disney Dining Plan. While we would never advise you to use a DDP Snack Credit on a $2.59 bag of apple slices, it is an option.

Seasonal drinks are also available at Sunshine Seasons. Note that the Milk Shakes are not usually a Dining Plan Snack Credit like the other beverages.

Sunshine Seasons Hours: 8:30am (Early Entry) to 8:00pm

Mobile Order: no

Being able to order a really nice lunch on the cheap while having access to strong air conditioning, Soarin’, Living with the Land, and restrooms makes Sunshine Seasons a win in our book.
