#AskIt – New WDW Resort Concept Art – What Do You Think?

It’s raining concept art! Recently we’ve seen art for both the “unnamed Disney Vacation Club resort at Fort Wilderness” AND the expansion at Coronado Springs. Disney emphasizes that these are just art (though Coronado is well under construction, so let’s figure that horse has left the stable) and subject to change – but what Disney fan site worth its salt doesn’t run with semi-confirmed “news” and ask readers what they think? Not this one!

We’ll break it up into two polls this week – number 1:

What do you think of the art for Coronado Springs?

  • It's OK (60%, 148 Votes)
  • Hate it (21%, 53 Votes)
  • Love it (19%, 47 Votes)

Last week, we asked if you’re changing your plans because of the new ticket purchase process and pricing at Walt Disney World. Most of you are not, either because you have an Annual Pass or because your dates aren’t flexible. For those who are making plans, don’t worry we’re hard at work to keep helping you find the best and least expensive ticket for your trip. As of this writing, many third-party ticket vendors continue to sell the old tickets (which are perfectly fine for getting in the parks) as they work their way through how to sell the new tickets (which despite what Disney says is not “as easy as as 1-2-3,” unless you take it to one decimal place). By the way, did you know that TouringPlans does NOT get any commission on tickets sold from links through our site? We do it strictly as a service to our readers.

That’s it for this week. If you like our polls, follow us on Twitter and Instagram for random flash polls as the mood hits us. Got a burning question you’d like everyone to weigh in on – hopefully one that can be answered in a multiple choice poll of 240 characters or less? Mention it in the comments and we’ll try to run it.

  • From what I’ve read elsewhere, the Coronado expansion is more of a convention center-type hotel. It certainly does fit the bill if that is the case. It does not look like a Disney hotel. You could just as well call it the Hyatt, Embassy Suites, Ritz, Bellagio, whatever.

As for the Wilderness Lodge, this is a DVC hotel so I don’t expect it to look like a typical Disney hotel…and it certainly doesn’t. I do like the concept behind it, though. It will be interesting to see how this one turns out.

    • The DVC they put in Wilderness Lodge last year actually has a much more Disney style(like the Polynesian bungalows) than this new Fort Wilderness does. I can’t think of too many DVCs that don’t fit their surroundings before these new ones. It will be weird coming out of Hoop De Doo and seeing that thing

  • I rather like the direction they appear to take with the Fort Wilderness.
I get the idea that they’re going for a Mid-Century Pacific Northwest modern.
(Think the house by Mt Rushmore in Hitchcock’s North By Northwest)

  • These are fugly prefab buildings with slap-on decor that belong in wannabe Atlantic City, not WDW.

  • I like the fake waterfall on the front of Coronado, although I really wish they had taken it a step further and fully embraced the Kuzcotopia design. So, because they didn’t, it’s absolutely not the design for me.

The Fort Wilderness one is so symbolically neat, though, I adore it. The porte cochere looking like ripples in a stream or pond, and then the way the wood is done on the buildings to make them look like cypress trees coming out of the water–absolute genius for a nature-themed resort. I am hopeful that most people won’t like it, because I have a feeling that’s going to become my alternate staycation resort aside from Animal Kingdom Lodge.

  • The Coronado Springs design looks like a conference hotel. Neither design has the Disney aesthetic I would have expected.

  • It was great fun hearing Len unload on these designs on the latest Jim Hill podcast. Oy vey.

  • I like the Coronado Springs one, I don’t *not* like the Fort Wilderness design, but I don’t feel that it fits in with the surroundings and will ruin the aesthetic of that area of the resort.

  • Looking at that Coronado Springs concept art, I assume they’ll have an area with nickel slots?
