Sayonara Dumbo! Closing Date Released

Dumbo the Flying Elephant will be closed at Magic Kingdom from January 9 to February 17, 2012. This closure will allow the attraction to be relocated from its current position in Fantasyland to the new Storybook Circus area that is under construction.

Refurbishment walls should expand further into Fantasyland at this point, consuming the original Dumbo location. This will create a considerable choke point in the middle of Fantasyland, so be ready for heavy crowding when crossing through this area. These walls should remain in place until the Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid sections of Fantasyland open to the public.

It is anticipated that the Fantasyland/Storybook Circus train station (formerly Mickey’s Toontown Fair Station)  and a Great Goofini attraction (formerly The Barnstormer) will open around the same time as the relocated Dumbo. Disney has not confirmed the opening dates of the train station or the Goofini attraction, so this assumption is based on Disney’s previous suggestion that attractions in this area would open together.

  • A few weeks ago Disney released a press item that stated that portion of the park will open to guests between January-May as part of the upcoming “season.”

It does seem early, but both pieces of information – the short closure and the stated Jan-May – came directly from Disney.

  • If I’m reading this correctly, does this mean some of the new Fantasyland expansion will open as early as February 17, 2012?
Everything I’ve ever read about the expansion always quotes ‘late 2012’ before it begins to open. Dare we dream that some pieces will be opening in February??
