Easter Egg Excitement Enters Epcot

Easter has sprung all around the Walt Disney World resort. From the magnificent Easter egg displays at the Grand Floridian to Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny meeting their friends over at the Magic Kingdom, spring is in the air. 

One special event is the Disney Egg-stravaganza 2015, a Disney Easter egg hunt, held at Epcot from March 27, 2015 through April 5, 2015.

For a $4.95 fee (with no discounts available), guests can purchase a packet containing a map and themed egg-shaped stickers. Then the fun really begins. Every country in World Showcase (plus the Outpost) has a large Disney character egg hidden somewhere in the pavilion. As you find each egg, place the sticker with the correct character on the spot on the map for that location. Once you have found all twelve hidden eggs, return to the Port of Entry and show your completed map for a special reward. The map and the reward are yours to keep as a souvenir.

Today, my family headed out to Epcot and bought a map for each of us and started our search. A few quick tips:

º Buy your maps early. In the past, maps have sold out prior to Easter Sunday. Maps are available at Pin Central in Future World, Port of Entry (between Future World and World Showcase), Heritage Manor Gifts (in the American Adventure Pavilion), and World Traveler (at the International Gateway).

º All of the eggs are hidden in plain sight out in the open parts of pavilions. You do not need to go inside an attraction, a restaurant, or a store to locate any of the eggs.

º Look up! And, conversely, look down! Just because they are hidden in plain sight doesn’t mean they are all easy to spot. We spotted one adult searching for eggs with her teenage children today who spent 20 minutes to find one of the eggs, much to the amusement of her kids who found it much faster. That said, it is not so difficult that it will frustrate young children. It truly is an activity for all ages.

º If you can’t find an egg walking one direction in the pavilion, walk the other direction. Some eggs are more easily found walking one direction or another.

º You do not have to complete your map to collect your special surprise, and you have until April 30, 2015 to pick up your special surprise.

When we brought in our completed maps, we had an option to pick the reward egg we wanted, or to go with whatever was hidden underneath a giant eggshell. As we ended up getting a duplicate pick, my husband swapped his for a different item, but my daughter and I were thrilled with our surprise egg (Tinker Bell for my daughter and Goofy for me, and my husband swapped his Tinker Bell for Mr. Toad).

While I don’t want to spoil the fun of anyone who will be trying it this week, I have included images of the hidden eggs that I took today throughout this post, in case you need a small hint. 

In all, most pavilions took about five minutes each, with two pavilions taking closer to ten minutes. It is easily doable in a single day, and is a great way to spend a bit of time while wandering World Showcase. While my husband and I spotted most of the eggs first but let our daughter “find” them before us, there were a couple times when she spotted them before us, adding to the competitive part of the experience. I have no doubt that we will do this in future years, or perhaps do the egg hunts also being done currently at Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure.
