Magic Kingdom Parking Lots Change Names, Add Colors

Earlier this week on a research expedition it was noted that Disney was putting a lot of effort into the tram stations at the Transportation and Ticket Center. The Disney Parks Blog has now confirmed that these changes are part of the work to overhaul the Magic Kingdom parking lots, assigning them new names, colors, and hero or villain themes.

Disney’s photo of a new lot sign:

The new red tram station, pictured below, will be for the Villains Lot, which will have sections named after characters like Zurg, Jafar, Hook, Scar, Cruella, and Ursula.

The blue tram station, pictured below, will be for the Heroes Lot, which will have sections named after characters like Woody, Aladdin, Peter Pan, Simba, Mulan, and Rapunzel.

Final signage should be updated in the parking lot soon. As of today the Villains Lot and tram station are reportedly finished. In theory guests going forward only need to remember if they are in a villain/hero, red/blue, or a particular character name to narrow down the possible lots their cars are in. Parking cast members have reported that the old names caused lots of confusion over which duck, dwarf, or mouse someone was parked in.

The fine folks over at Discussion Kingdom are letting us share the following photos they took today:

  • Well, many years ago, the entire sign package for WDW changed, bringing on the onslaught of purple and green. Then, TTC got an “upgrade” of color and new signs. I know its, kinda cool, but… Remember in the past, all signage was brown? And TTC, it was neutral (a blue at first, then a reddish brown later). The original idea for WDW (specifically, the Magic Kingdom, as read in various books about Walt and the place), was in essence, to numb the guests’ senses so that when they arrived at the Magic Kingdom, everything was colorful and bright. What has likely happened here (as with sooo many changes as Disney), someone new came along in management and needed to make an impact on their new area… I love the place, and yes, new ideas are always needed to keep people coming back. I just happen to believe there are other ways to implement ideas that do not interfere with the original “master plan”.

  • I like the changes…we always use our cell phone to take a snapshot of the row we park in.

  • The only thing you ever “needed” to remember was the row number since they are only used once and in order regardless of what the lot name is.

  • Well, the thing that confused me about only remembering 1 thing to find your car is that if you only remember the color or hero/villain detail that still leaves a lot of rows to check for your auto. You would be better off remembering the actual hero or villain if you really want to get to quickly find your car. (And my mom, bless her heart, would be stumped about whether many of the actual characters are villains or heros. Good thing she only goes to WDW with us!)

  • I think it’s a neat idea. The system would seem to work well in that you only have to remember 1 of 3 things: color, hero/villain, or character and the tram stations look great with the updated signage and paint.
