Walt Disney World Crowd Calendar Update for June 2019

June is here, and it is time for another Crowd Calendar update. Disney introduced a new summer One World Ticket. The discounted park ticket is another sign that Disney is expecting a slow summer. The discounted ticket must be used before August 29, 2019, which just happens to be the opening date for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. With Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida after the summer travel season, most people’s first chance to visit the new land will be Thanksgiving, Christmas, or spring break. The fall will have higher than normal crowds but they will be manageable.

Our crowd level numbers do not include Galaxy’s Edge. The new land will be crowded for the foreseeable future. The new land will reach capacity on most days. If you want a crowd level for Galaxy’s Edge, it will be a 10. Arrive early and use a touring plan.

Updates to Crowd Levels

Here is a look at average crowd level changes as a result of June’s update:

Now let’s take a look month by month:

June 2019 (Crowd Levels WDW:5.9 MK:6.3 EP:5.8 HS:6.3 AK:5.2)
July 2019 (Crowd Levels WDW:4.8 MK:5.4 EP:4.2 HS:4.1 AK:5)
August 2019 (Crowd Levels WDW:3.5 MK:3.4 EP:4 HS:4.4 AK:3.6)

This update just has minor changes for the summer. We expect to see low to moderate crowds. The heat and extended park hours will keep the crowd levels down. Some guests will get in a final visit to the resort before Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens at the end of August.

September 2019 (Crowd Levels WDW:3.2 MK:2.9 EP:2.7 HS:7.2 AK:2.4)

September is historically the slowest time of the year. 2019 will be different. With Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opening on August 29, September will see an increase in attendance. The increase in attendance will affect all areas of Walt Disney World. We expect wait times to increase 10-25% in all parks. Even with the increase in attendance, we expect crowds to be moderate. September will still be the best time to visit Walt Disney World.

October 2019 (Crowd Levels WDW:5 MK:4.2 EP:4.6 HS:8.1 AK:5)

Our collection of school schedules is showing that more schools are taking fall breaks. Most of the fall breaks are in October. During these school breaks we think the parks will be nearly as crowded as spring break. The days at Magic Kingdom without a Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party will have higher crowd levels than the days with a party.

November 2019 (Crowd Levels WDW:6.1 MK:5.7 EP:5.9 HS:8.5 AK:5.9)
December 2019 (Crowd Levels WDW:7.6 MK:6.9 EP:6.5 HS:9 AK:7.5)

Thanksgiving Week, Christmas Week, and New Years Week are the busiest time at Walt Disney World. Add Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and the crowds might surpass historical highs. If you are visiting these weeks it will be important to prepare yourself mentally. Arrive early to the parks, and use a touring plan. Non-holiday weeks will be manageable as most schools are in session and people are saving their vacation days.

The moderate winter weather in Florida keeps attendance up. With the expectation that the 2nd Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction, Rise of the Resistance, will open sometime early in the new year, the second wave of Star Wars fans will visit the new land. Once we have official date announcements we will adjust these predictions.

Spring break will be crowded in 2020. This will be the first chance for many guests to see a fully operational Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

  • In case anyone is doubting the relatively light predictions for the summer, Touring Plans has nailed or overpredicted the “across all parks” level for 25 days in a row. They haven’t erred on the low side since mid-May.

  • You’ve referred to Rise of the Resistance opening early 2020 but the official timeframe is still late 2019 – what’s making you think 2020? (I’m going early 2020 so hoping it’s open in 2019!)

    • I said that spring break may be the first time for some guests to experience Rise of the Resistance. Disney is saying Rise of the Resistance will open later in 2019. If the ride is not opened before Thanksgiving I would not be surprised if the ride does not open until 2020. Again, the official word is later this year.

  • I’m just curious what factors/ information goes into these monthly adjustments? We’re going to WDW the week before Thanksgiving, and June’s update makes it look even better than last month’s adjustments. It’s hard for me to imagine such light crowds even though I will be ecstatic if that’s the case!
