Lily’s Best (Summer) Week Ever: Epcot Edition
My name is Lily Mascardo. I am eight years old. My mom, Julia Mascardo, was one of the people who wrote the Best Week Ever articles, but with her new job, she’s been really busy to write them. She asked me if I would like to take pictures and write articles about my weeks this summer. I said yes, but only if she did the typing for me because I type very slowly.
This week I went to Epcot. Here’s what I saw and did.
This is Spaceship Earth. It’s the symbol for Epcot, and you see it all the time when you see pictures of Epcot. That’s why I took the picture, because I think you have to take the picture when you get there, right?
Today we were going to The Land to see Behind the Seeds. I haven’t done it before, so this was my first time. I was excited to do it because Living with the Land is one of my favorite rides in Epcot.
The first thing we saw on the tour was a room with pests and helpful insects that eat the pests. They use the helpful insects in the greenhouse a lot.
This is the biology lab in Living with the Land. They do plant tests and experiments. The day we went there, they were studying plums to make more healthy plum trees.
This was my favorite part of the tour. This plant is named Stanley. He is a Sensitive Plant. When you touch it, the leaves close up. In the middle of the photo, you can see where I got to touch the leaf and it closed up halfway. In a hurricane, when it gets shook a lot, it closes up all its leaves. It looks a lot like a fern.
This is a picture of a tomato plant. Each plant in the greenhouse has its name and birthday on it. This one is called Felicity and it was seeded on December 10, 2017.
This is a picture of a passionfruit flower that got handed out so we could smell it. It smelled kind of like perfume. It looks like a flower with roots coming out of its petals.
This is a picture of shrimp shells. In one tank of shrimp, the shrimp were fighting each other. In the other tanks, the shrimp were lazy.
This is a picture of a banana bunch. I learned on the tour that there is a type of banana called an ice cream banana. The tour guide said that they were really sweet and yummy.
They have a lot of different types of bananas in the greenhouse. There aren’t very many kinds of bananas that you can buy at the grocery store, though.
After the tour, we went on Living with the Land, the original ride in The Land. Water lilies are one of my favorite plants. I’ll let you guess why!
This is a picture of the catfish. You can tell they are catfish because they have whiskers. Meow.
After the ride, we were hungry and got lunch at Sunshine Seasons. My mom and dad had tuna noodle salad. I had macaroni and cheese. Which would you like to eat?
After lunch, we went to Starbucks to get dessert. I love going to Starbucks.
They have a Millennial Pink Cupcake at Starbucks. None of us got it, though.
Instead, we all got Frappuccino drinks. Mom got a Serious Strawberry. Dad got Triple Mocha. I got a Vanilla Bean Frappuccino with whipped cream and mocha syrup. That’s my regular order. It tastes super good on a hot day!
While we drank our drinks, we went over to the under construction Guardians of the Galaxy ride. You can see them putting up the steel for the new building near the trees.
This is a good view of the building from the front entrance. It’s going to be super duper tall when it is done. I will not ride on the ride when it is done because I do not like roller coasters!
This was my day at Epcot. There’s so much to do and learn. I would recommend going on the Behind the Seeds tour because you can learn a lot. I recommend Frappuccinos, too!
Lily Mascardo is a rising third grader and lives with her dad, mom, and two cats in a house behind Magic Kingdom.
This is a very informative—edifying article to all. Thanks a lot! Continue to post!
Great job, Lily. Looking forward to hearing more from you.
A quick question. Did your Mom book the Behind The Seeds tour before you arrived, or were you able to get a walk-up?
Mom jumping in to answer (as kiddo doesn’t have an account to reply to comments yet)…
We booked the day of as a walk-up. Unless things are really, really busy, that’s one tour you don’t have to book in advance. If it is really busy, you may not be able to get in on the next tour (if it is close to the tour time), but you should be able to get into the next one which is about an hour later. On the day when we visited, it looked like the middle-of-the-day tours weren’t as full as the morning tours, but none of the tours completely sold out.
Thanks, that really helps. I really want to do it but the rest of my party aren’t sure so it’s good to hear that day of, or a couple of days it would still be possible.
Great job Lily, I have 3 , 8 year old grand-daughters, and Living with the Land is also one of their favorite attractions!!
Earnest Hemmingway would approve of your writing style and perspective. Good work.
Great article Lily. I am coming to WDW in 10 days time and have always wanted to do the Behind The Seeds tour, so it was great to see your photos. I can’t wait to take the tour myself.
Wow, this was such a sweet and well written article. As an adult I forget what kinds of things stick out to a child. It was really great to get your perspective. Keep it up, Lily.
Awesome article Lily! I’ve never been to Living with the Land. Maybe some day soon I will go down to Florida and experience a new adventure. Maybe I’ll even give Starbucks another try! Look forward to seeing more of your work!
Awesome job Lily! Can’t wait to see your adventures throughout the summer, thanks for sharing with us!
Love this Lily, especially all the pictures. Living with the Land is one of my favorites as I grew up on a farm and am vegan now so bring on all the fruits and veggies. Thanks for all the tips and here is one for you too, “keep an open mind regarding those rollar coasters, you might be surprised .” Thanks for sharing your day.
Great job Lily! I love Starbucks too. My daughter is a rising second grader and she is super excited about the Incredibles monorail!
Thanks for the report, Lily! I love to see Disney things from a kid’s perspective…after all Disney is really for kids, right? Keep up the great work and have an awesome summer!
What a great report! Thanks posting. Yes, you simply must take a picture of Spaceship Earth when you first walk into the park. And I’ll have the mac and cheese, please. Keep up the good work!
That was super duper adorable! I have an emerging 3rd grader too and have really started including her in planning our trips, she loves it! Love to see the world through kids eyes!
Totally agree – this post is very adorable and has the added value of showing Grown Ups what is noteworthy to children. Thank you for your perspective and I hope to read more articles from you!
I wasn’t planning to spit coffee all over my iPad this morning, but Lily’s comment about the catfish cracked me up. Thanks for the report, Lily! Keep having fun. .
Great article Lily! I look forward to reading these throughout the summer!
Agreed!
