Top 3 Things We Ate This Week at Disney, July 10, 2021

The TouringPlans in-park team gets to try a lot of food. From quick service locations to table service meals and snacks in between, we try so many different foods to help keep information on our site up to date. Sometimes foods and drinks are wonderful. Other times, not as much. But what really rose to the top? Here’s our top 3 foods the in-park team sampled this week.

Shrimp and Grits

How good could shrimp and grits be? If you’re talking about the new ones offered at Polite Pig at Disney Springs, REALLY REALLY GOOD. Simply put, there are no words for how amazing this dish was with the most beautiful, sweet, and sticky / spicy glaze on perfectly cooked shrimp. There was a delightful smoked flavor to the shrimp on top of creamy grits that look like a large portion until you find yourself scraping the side of the bowl with your cornbread. At $14, it’s a wonderful entree with one down side–you’re probably going to need to get back in line for a second order.

Sweet Tea Slush

Walt Disney World is a place where unsweet tea is the norm, and no matter how many packets of sugar you dump into it, you’re not going to get really good sweet tea from it. So when we saw this Sweet Tea Slush at the newly reopened Golden Oak Outpost at Magic Kingdom, we thought we had gone to heaven. It’s real sweet tea in a slush, making it the perfect drink for those super hot summer days. Please let this one stay around, Disney. Pretty please with . . . uh. . . . sugar on top?

New Foods on Batuu

Sometimes we love the new foods that come out of Disney’s culinary laboratories. Other times, they’re a hard pass. Spoiler alert, two of the new foods at Docking Bay 7 at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge are wonderful (and one is just okay).

Batuuan Beef and Crispy Topato Stir-fry (Smoky Braised Beef glazed in Tamarind Sauce and served with Stir-fried Vegetables, Crispy Herbed Yucca, Pickled Onions, and Cilantro, $19.99) was first up. The beef was so tender and flavorful, and the yucca was crispy and delicious. The vegetables were a great accent for the meal and it all comes together so well.
