Rope Drop Mode in the TouringPlans Lines App
If you’ve used a touring plan in the Disney parks recently, maybe you’ve seen “Rope Drop Mode” under the Advanced Options header. Below is how to activate Rope Drop Mode in your plan and what that means for your morning hustle.

Once you have selected your touring plan or created a custom plan in the Lines app, scroll down to Advanced Options as shown in the image above. Select the “Enable Rope Drop Mode?” button.

If you select the “i” to the right of the button, you’ll get the notice shown above:
“Enable this option if you will arrive early enough to be at the front of the line for your first attraction. To do this, you must arrive very early, position yourself well while waiting for the park to open, and walk aggressively once you are allowed to head to your first attraction. This will result in a low wait time for your first attraction. Otherwise, the software assumes you’ll be in the middle of the pack entering the park and that you’ll experience an average first wait time.”
While you don’t have to be the very first person in line, like Len and Gigi are in the photo above, you’ll need to be not too far behind. You can optimize your plan once the park is open and you’ve tapped in!
How to Rope Drop
We’ve tested rope drop at all four Disney World parks countless times over the last few years. Here are some tips on how to be at the front of the line for your first attraction of the day:
- Plan to be on the first bus, first Monorail, first Skyliner, or first boat of the day.
- Pack snacks and water to avoid burning valuable minutes running into Starbucks in the park.
- Know where you’re going and where to start. Animal Kingdom recently changed their Early Entry Rope Drop procedures so you don’t need to stress about which path to take to tap in.
- It’s ok to be a little bit behind. It happens. Restroom breaks happen, sometimes kids (or parents) are running slow, sometimes a Croc will have a blowout and you’ll be hunting for new ones in the Emporium at 8:00am. Just optimize your plan when you’re ready to get back on track!
