REVIEWS: Disney Springs WonderFall Flavors Sampler
Disney Springs has kicked off the WonderFall Flavors event, where 30 dining locations offer special menu items perfect for autumn. Take a look at what we thought of some of the offerings.
We sampled several items at The Ganachery (I mean, how could you not).
Chai Tea Ganache Square and Pumpkin Spice Ganache Square
These two-bite treats are $3.00 each. The Chai Tea Square (the one with the leaf decoration) was light and had an almost floral tea-scented flavor, but with some of the warmth of autumn. This reminded us of watching kids play in a leaf pile during a warm break in the nip of fall. The Pumpkin Spice square was too much, and we say this with all the love of pumpkin spice in the world. Even though this is just a 1″ square and we enjoyed the flavor, it was too rich to eat in one sitting.
Maple Pecan Bourbon Hot Ganache
There’s a lot going on in this $13.00 drink – booze and candy and maple and pecan and, yes, bacon. The look is gorgeous, with so many layers and textures, and it’s good quality chocolate, but the price seems slightly too high when there are so many drink options nearby.
Mini Chocolate Skulls
Not officially part of the Wonderfall collection, but thematically appropriate, The Ganachery has created mini chocolate skulls, filled with caramel ganache. Theses $15 skulls are dark chocolate crafted with incredible detail; they’d make an excellent hostess gift for a Halloween party.
Jock Lindsey’s Hanger Bar
The treats at Jock Lindsey’s are of the savory variety. This $22 giant charcuterie platter is a true standout. The pickles are housemade – a fantastic melding of sweet and spicy, with a hint of cinnamon in the brine. The pretzel is a soft, crafted with a proper boil from a local vendor. The mustard isn’t remarkable, but the beer cheese fondue had a nice smooth tang and the mix of hard cheeses, sausage, and prosciutto was filling, but not overwhelming. This could be a large dinner for one, or a nice solid starter for two or three.
The YeSake kiosk offerings include a pumpkin spice boba tea ($8.00) and and a kobocha pumpkin bun ($5.75). The tea was yummy going down, but it had a strong after taste, powerful for several minutes, which is not exactly what we’re looking for in refreshing beverage. The bun and the pumpkin filling were too similar in texture, both soft and creamy. We would have liked more contrast in mouthfeel and flavor.
At Sprinkles Cupcakes, there is a Wonderfall pumpkin cupcake that comes either in a standard large size or in a trio of minis. This is a good pumpkin cupcake, a bit lighter than a muffin, but the flavor is nothing dazzling. We’re happy to eat it, but wouldn’t make a special trip. The fondant pumpkin on top is technically edible but it’s the usual blech.
