Star Wars Weekends Ending and Other Star Wars News for Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Today, Disney made some major announcements regarding Star Wars in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
First, let’s start with the sad news. Due to construction at the park, Star Wars Weekends will no longer be taking place. Boo….
Ok, now that we have the bad stuff out of the way, let’s get to the good news. Starting on December 1, Guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be able to enjoy more Star Wars experiences. The first will be the additional Star Wars: The Force Awakens scene for Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, which was announced at this year’s D23. During the opening months, everyone who rides Star Tours will get to experience the new adventure. After that, it will be random once again.
Here’s a glimpse at what you can expect to see with the additional scene:
Guests will also be able to experience the Star Wars Launch Bay which will include special exhibits and peeks behind-the-scenes, special merchandise, and opportunities to encounter Chewbacca and Darth Vader. Guests can also experience “Star Wars: Path of the Jedi” which will feature scenes from the complete Star Wars saga, as well as giving those who are new to the Star Wars story an opportunity to get acquainted with the films.
Finally, as I had mentioned before, Jedi Training Academy is currently being refurbished and by early December, Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple will take Guests to the secret site of an ancient Jedi temple where they will face Darth Vader along with the Seventh Sister – a new villain from the Disney XD series “Star Wars Rebels.”
Oh and don’t forget about the upcoming Season of the Force event that’s coming to the park as well.
While it’s certainly disappointing to see that Star Wars Weekends won’t be continuing, it’s clear that our love affair with Star Wars certainly will not be ending in the park in the upcoming months.
What impact are you expecting this will have on the crowd calendar? Are you going to be able to adjust for this given historically the calendar for the period with SWW would have heavily biased towards the Friday/Saturday/Sunday?
So bummed at the cancellation of SWW. Was planning on spending one day of totally immersing myself in all things Star Wars during SWW, going so far as to spend TWO days at DHS (I know, I know). No reason for that now.
We were planning a trip for Star Wars Weekends next year. Now we are waiting for announcements about Season of the Force to see it is lines up with our Spring Break. Really bummed and wish Disney would just announce stuff already so that we can do our 180 day planning.
This is our problem, too. Planned 180+ for ADRs, and needed to know which parks we’ll be at. But not much is confirmed for HS or AK, even now at 5 months before our trip. Like will AK have night hours. Will HS have any special SWs stuff, such as fireworks? Who knows. The frustrating need to micromanage so far ahead, but not have all the info to properly do so.
Is the Jedi training a fast pass + option?
No FP+. You need to go to ABC Sound Studio in HS early in the day to sign up your 4 to 12 year old (who must be present). Some days almost all time slots are filled by 9:30am, so you may wanna make it a rope drop priority. That’s what we did last year when my son was 12, and we didn’t want to miss his last chance. Well worth it & a highlight of our trip. Goodluck!
I am looking forward to these additions to tide us over. We’re going next month and have HS scheduled for a day and a half. We only did a day last time and were rushed and ran out of time. I wanted to make sure I built in time for the launch bay. It sounds like we could easily spend and hour there!
Not too smart to cancel SWW, not too smart at all.
We’re going in mid-Dec and had already decided to skip DHS. It will be awesome once the Lands are complete, we just don’t have the money in our budget to include DHS (or AK) until after 2018.
